St. Stanislaus Church in New Haven, Connecticut, is a stunning example of a Polish Catholic church in the U.S. Its gilded interior, ceiling frescoes, stained glass windows, and fantastic details make it a real treat for the eyes.

The church was established around 1913, and began to grow from there.

Like many churches, St. Stanislaus has changed from time to time, though not as much in recent years. The ceiling frescoes were added in 1925.

The following year, stained glass windows arrive from Aachen, Germany, and they are definitely beautiful!

In 1942, the interior was renovated and beautified with a new theme of the Christianization of Poland (which is explicitly a Christian nation.) The organ was rebuilt and the high altar was moved in accordance with the Second Council of the Vatican.

In 1979, the church was recognized in its historic capacity by the New Haven Preservation Society, so the overall look as it stands now is unlikely to see significant changes -- not that it needs it!

When I visited, there was a Polish gentleman there who was doing some basic repairs on some of the aisle frescoes, and he loved showing off the beautiful church he himself attended.

I would love to see more beauty like this being created today!
