In Which We Freeze a Waterfall

Early this morning, my husband sent me a text telling me that I needed to head up Provo Canyon to see Bridal Veil Falls.

"It's finally frozen, and it's gorgeous, and you're going to want to get photos!" he said.

This year, we've gotten a LOT of snow, but snow keeps the weather slightly on the warmer side of winter weather, and the waterfalls don't freeze as much.

The last couple of weeks, though, we've gotten less snow and much lower temperatures, sometimes approaching zero.

Which means that finally -- FINALLY! -- Bridal Veil Falls was allowed to freeze over. And my husband was right, it definitely looks beautiful.

I think my favorite park is that column of ice between the two remaining running cascades. I also kinda like the upper falls (pictured at the very beginning) which has icicles hanging from the rocks.

But Bridal Veil Falls was not the only place with ice and frozen shapes. Not far from this waterfall was a series of frozen sheets dripping off the various rocky shapes. There's no waterfall here normally, but the winter creates these frozen shapes as the snow freezes, partially thaws, and refreezes.

It was a beautiful -- if frigid -- morning!
