Hola mi estimada comunidad, hoy les traigo otro post geológico. La Geología está presente en cada uno de nuestros días, de hecho, exceptuando el reino vegetal y el animal, todos los efectos cotidianos dependen en alguna manera de una materia prima formada en un proceso geológico. Espero en esta serie de post, ser capaz de transmitirles algunas ideas esenciales de la Geología y su aplicación en la vida práctica.

Hello my dear community, today I bring you another geological post. Geology is present in each of our days, in fact, except for the plant and animal kingdom, all daily effects depend in some way on a raw material formed in a geological process. I hope, in this series of posts, to be able to convey to you some essential ideas of geology and their application in practical life.

Today's visit will be to Farallones de Moa, a community that seems frozen in time, in the heart of the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park. You can access the community of Farallones by turning off the Sagua de Tánamo-Moa highway, in the Holguín province.
Farallones is an important point of geological interest with a complicated history, and not yet fully resolved. In any case, most authors consider that Farallones is composed of a core of limestone rocks surrounded by different types of volcanic rocks. This limestone core allowed the formation of the mogotes that are known today as the Farallones.

Limestone are carbonate rocks that are formed in a long process called sedimentation, where for thousands of years small organisms are deposited on the seabed forming powerful thicknesses of sediment, then the weight of the sediment layers above them compresses them and They fit into hard rock.
Limestone is one of the most used rocks in industry, to produce cement, paints, gravel, sand, stone powders for construction, but it is also used to obtain calcium carbonate for the chemical industry, lime for sugar, among others. other various uses.
However, these Farallones de Moa limestones are not exploited, that is, they are not used for industry, because it is a protected area, because it is a National Park.

Farallones constitutes a tropical forest with a perfect state of conservation, in that sense it is an important source and habitat for several species of birds, reptiles and plants. In addition, it houses the largest cave system in the east of the country and these are crossed by relevant river systems that are valuable freshwater resources.
When fresh water dissolves limestone, cave systems are formed, the well-known stalactites and stalagmites, which also constitute the habitat of bats and are of interest for the development of caving.

Regarding the development of our practices, we always use a coffee camp that is in the community. Legend has it that couples who get engaged in Farallones are couples for life. I have not been able to trace the veracity of the legend, but I do know first-hand that the quiet environment and the distance from the world are favorable conditions for couples to form and loves to be lived that are only known to the imposing limestone cliffs.
