Memorias de un geólogo: Cangilones del Río Máximo
Hello hello my dear readers. This time we are going to the center of the country. We go to the province of Camagüey to visit the buckets of the Máximo River.
In Geology, the name bucket is given to a channel-shaped structure, which is formed in rocks of high hardness that are affected by a fluvial current, generally a river.
These in particular have been formed in limestone rocks, and have created one of the most beautiful sites of geological interest in Cuba.
It is to be expected that a site with such natural attractions will be used for the construction of a camping base, which is famous throughout the province.

En aquel entonces, el campismo ofertaba una variada parrilla de ofertas gastronómicas y de números culturales. En periodo vacacional se solía llenar de personas que venían a pasar un buen rato en familia.

The Máximo River is one of the main river systems of Camagüey. It is 66 km long, and its basin covers 547 km². Its sources are located in the Sierra de Cubitas and flows into the northern coast of Camagüey. Three reservoirs have been built on the Máximo River basin: Máximo, Hidráulica Cubana and Montecito, to help use water more efficiently and provide it to the residents of the area. In the area where it flows into the Caribbean Sea is the Máximo River Wetland, which is an extensive swamp ecosystem.
The bucket area is an area of about 350 meters where the river cuts limestone in its channel and has formed these grooves, and pools that can be of considerable depth.
At that time, camping offered a varied range of gastronomic offerings and cultural acts. During the holiday period it used to be filled with people who came to have a good time with their family. In the central part of the buckets there was a very shallow area that was considered the children's area.

During my visit to the buckets I heard several stories about the sighting of crocodiles, which escaped from the Río Máximo hatchery. The truth is that this farm is somewhat far away and I was not able to find reliable sources about attacks or sightings of crocodiles in the area. These are probably stories with no real basis.
The truth is that the place has excellent landscape values and allows you to have a good time with family and friends.

A good geologist knows that he may not be able to return to a place like this, so he tries to take samples of headdresses, looks for stones, they call us, of course, he tries to take an arsenal of photos.
And although I have not been able to return to the site, he is undoubtedly one of those that has stuck in my memory. I hope to return.
And here is our brief trip through the land of Agramonte, the milk creams and water in jars. If you have come this far, all that remains for me is to thank you for reading and I invite you to another encounter with geology.
Thank you for your attention and help, if you want me to talk about a particular geological phenomenon, let me know, and if it is in my repertoire we will sing it together.
