Memoirs of a Geologist: Lauterbrunnen

Hello my dear readers, this time, I want to share with you some images of a geological landscape that impacted me. This is the intramontane Lauterbrunnen valley in the Swiss Alps.
I visited the Alps in 2020, as part of a research stay in Germany.
From a geological point of view, the Swiss Alps were formed millions of years ago, when the Eurasian tectonic plate collided with the African plate.
This type of collision formed a mountain chain that extends across almost the entire Swiss territory, with a presence in Italy, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Austria, and France.
The Alps are a spectacle where the forces of nature have come together to create some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet.
Intramontane valleys like Lauterbrunnen are formed due to erosion, that is, the dragging of sediments and wear of rocks, over millions of years, by the rivers that form during the melting of glacial ice. In summer it is possible to see more than a dozen waterfalls throughout the valley.
The range of colors, barely reachable by my smartphone lens, is a true delight for the viewer.
