Another Way to Get to La Pastora

Greetings, friends of the #monomad contest. Getting to know my city can sometimes be complicated; you have to decide to wander aimlessly, letting your feet take you where they lead, and dare to overcome a few obstacles. Mostly, you pass by iconic landmarks or beautiful, visually appealing places, but the true essence lies in those images that capture the reality and daily life of the people in a community.

Un saludo amigos de #monomad contest. Conocer mi ciudad a veces es complicado; tienes que proponerte a veces caminar a ciegas, donde te lleven tus pasos, y atreverte a romper algunos obstáculos. Mayormente, uno pasa por sitios emblemáticos o lugares bonitos, agradables a la vista, pero la verdadera esencia está en esas imágenes que captan la realidad y la vida cotidiana de las personas en una comunidad.

I took advantage of the day; the streets were deserted, and I was able to enjoy these street photos. I went to a place where I was surprised with a lunch; they never told me the location or where it was. The truth is, I had a wonderful time—a delicious lunch followed by a pleasant conversation and anecdotes that will stay with me. When I asked what part of our city it was, they replied, "It's La Pastora."

Aproveché este día; las calles estaban solitarias, pude disfrutar estas fotos callejeras, ya que fui a un lugar donde me llevaron de sorpresa a almorzar, nunca me dijeron el lugar, ni en dónde quedaba. Lo cierto es que lo pasé muy rico, un buen almuerzo y luego un rato de conversación y anécdotas que quedaron en el recuerdo. Cuando pregunté qué parte de nuestra ciudad era, me respondieron: "Es La Pastora".

I was surprised because I recently showed you a historical part of the parish. Now I'm exploring another new area through a different entrance; however, its streets and houses still bear the imprint of the past. Although our city has changed a lot since then, colonial architecture still prevails in small sections, impossible to erase completely. There are many parishes whose houses are almost a hundred years old; over the years they've undergone internal and external renovations, but others have been repaired and still maintain their original facades and entryways. I was able to talk to some residents, and they shared some of their experiences with me.

Me sorprendió porque hace poco les mostré una parte histórica de la parroquia. Ahora estoy conociendo otro nuevo lugar por otra entrada; sin embargo, sus calzadas y sus casas mantienen esa huella del pasado. Aunque nuestra ciudad ha tenido muchos cambios desde esa época hasta ahora, aún prevalecen todavía en pequeños sectores esas arquitecturas coloniales que es imposible borrarlas de golpe. Hay muchas parroquias cuyas casas tienen construidas casi cien años; durante esos años han sufrido remodelaciones internas y externas, pero otras han pasado por reparaciones y aún mantienen sus fachadas y zaguanes originales. Pude conversar con algunos vecinos y me contaron algunas de sus experiencias.

It's interesting because you become immersed in their stories and their narratives; compiling these experiences and recreating them for visitors is an opportunity to learn about and strengthen our roots. The appeal of these places, when you explore their historic centers, lies in recalling the social life in their alleyways, seeing the tall houses with overhanging eaves and large windows, and double-leaf wooden gates protected by steel grilles. And at the same time, you find a clash of different styles where the facades are more modern.

Interesante porque te sumerges en sus cuentos y te metes en sus relatos; recopilar esas vivencias y recrearlas para los visitantes es una oportunidad para conocer y afianzar nuestras raíces. Ya que el interés que te ofrecen estos lugares cuando recorres su casco histórico es rememorar la vida social en sus callejones, ver las casas altas con aleros y grandes ventanales, portones construidos en madera con doble hoja resguardados con rejas de acero. Y al mismo tiempo encontramos un choque de estilos diferentes donde las fachadas son más modernas.

The boy in the picture above had a motorcycle accident and is waiting for someone to come and pick him up.

El Chico, de la imagen de arriba, se le accidento la moto y espera que lo vengan a buscar.

But its people are the same: kind, friendly, and with a unique sense of belonging. They themselves say the atmosphere remains the same; it hasn't changed much for the older residents. With these street photographs, I bid you farewell, my friends and lovers of Black and White.
