The First Venezuelan Saints

Today I dedicated my time to enjoying a different kind of walk, from the city center to a little further afield. This was to celebrate a very significant event that took place in our country, as these past few days have been a cause for constant celebration. I came to visit Candelaria Square, where a statue was erected in memory of our Blessed José Gregorio Hernández and our Saint María Carmen Rediles, now proclaimed Saints in the Vatican under the authority of Pope Leo XIV, news known throughout the world.

Los Primeros Santos Venezolanos

Hoy he dedicado mi tiempo a disfrutar de una caminata distinta, desde el centro de la ciudad hasta un poco más allá. Para celebrar un evento muy significativo acaecido en nuestro país. Ya que todos estos días, ha sido motivo de celebraciones constantes. He venido a visitar la plaza Candelaria, donde fue levantada una estatua en memoria de nuestro beato José Gregorio Hernández, y nuestra Santa María Carmen Rediles, ahora proclamados Santos en el Vaticano bajo la autoridad del Papa León XIV, noticia conocida en todo el mundo.

Today I came to see the enormous statue standing in the middle of the plaza in commemoration of our saint, and to see the renovations that were done to the plaza. It is undoubtedly packed with people who come fervently to pray for their health, and one is filled with emotion and feels a unique experience. Here in this place, the faithful from different parts of the country gather, participating with great devotion in all the saints' festivities.

En esta oportunidad he venido hoy a ver la enorme estatua erguida en medio de la plaza en conmemoración a nuestro santo, y para ver las remodelaciones que se le hicieron a la plaza. Sin duda que está abarrotada de gente que vienen fervorosas a pedir por su salud y uno se llena de emoción y sientes una experiencia única. Aquí en este lugar se congregan fieles de distintas partes del país, quienes participan con gran devoción en todas las festividades de los santos.

This walk, for me, not only represents my faith, but also my solidarity with the community during these special days. There will be many days of celebration. Although the canonization was a few days ago, we will now see the square filled with the faithful every day; however, we will also see fanatics who will drink the water from the fountain and bathe in it, ignoring that it is a normal water supply from a pipe installed for the fountain.

Esta caminata para mí, no solo representa mi fe, sino que también me solidarizo con la comunidad en todos estos días especiales. Ya que van a hacer muchos días de celebración. Aunque la canonización fue hace unos días, ahora vamos a ver todos los días la plaza llena, de fieles; sin embargo, vamos a ver también gente fanática que beberán el agua de la fuente y se bañarán en ella. Ignorando que es una toma de agua normal que viene de una tubería instalada para la fuente.
