Scavenging in the dump(ster)-ENG-ESP (Monomad challenge)

I was at a market when I stumbled upon a dumpster. I saw two middle-aged men, separately and at different times, searching through the trash.

Like any landfill, the smell was nauseating, so I was surprised to find anything of value. And, as they say, "one man's trash is another man's treasure."

I approached them, and upon seeing me with my camera, they immediately told me they weren't homeless. I reassured them, telling them not to worry, that I wouldn't judge them. I asked them what they were looking for, and they said vegetable scraps that businesses had thrown out.

Estaba en un mercado cuando me encontré con un vertedero de basura. Vi a dos hombres de mediana edad, por separado y en momentos diferentes, buscando algo entre los desechos.

Como todo vertedero, el olor era nauseabundo, así que me sorprendió que pudiera haber algo valioso que encontrar allí. Y, como dice el dicho, "la basura de unos es el tesoro de otros".

Me acerqué a ellos y, al verme con la cámara, de inmediato me dijeron que no eran indigentes. Les aseguré que estuvieran tranquilos, que no los iba a juzgar. Les pregunté qué buscaban, y me respondieron que restos de verduras que los negocios desechaban.

The reason? To feed the chickens in their coops.

One of them told me this, preferring not to give his name. The other kept his reason to himself; I presume it's for personal consumption, but that's just a guess.

They spent a long time digging, searching carefully and meticulously. The discarded items were varied, but the vegetable scraps were substantial. When I left, they were still there, enduring the smell as they searched.

¿La razón? Alimentar a los pollos de sus criaderos. Esto me lo contó uno de ellos, quien prefirió no decirme su nombre. El otro se reservó la razón; presumo que es para consumo propio, pero es solo una conjetura.

Estuvieron un largo rato escarbando, buscando con cuidado y detenimiento. Los desechos eran variados, pero los restos de verdura eran considerables. Cuando me fui, seguían allí, soportando el olor mientras buscaban.
