Portraits are a type of photography that I have not tried much, despite being an interesting way to discover great things.

From now on I will try to explore this type of images, not only to learn in photographic terms, but to understand how different, but similar we are.

The poet and cultural manager Vielsi Arias is the first person to whom I want to dedicate this publication, for besides being a dear friend, she is also my first model for the portraits.

This session took place in an old and historic house in Valencia, Venezuela.

The light I used was natural, giving the protagonist spontaneity as herself. At first, we were nervous, but then everything flowed little by little.

While I was taking her picture, I asked her questions. I even asked her to tell me about herself as a poet.

Vielsi has published books such as Transeúnte, Los Difuntos, Luto de los Árboles y Mandato de puertas, La luna es mi pueblo, memoirs of painter Cristóbal Ruiz (life story).

The themes that most transcend in his work are the house, the landscape and memory. A poetics of place.

"For me, poetry is a powerful artifact that attacks the consumer society. A thinking being cannot be seduced by the values of this one," he told me long after the session.

Photography can also be interpreted as poetry in images, and I want to believe that I succeeded with Vielsi.

Los retratos son un tipo de fotografía que no he probado mucho, pese a ser una ventana para observar y profundizar el ser.

A partir de ahora trataré de explorar este tipo de imágenes, no solo para aprender en términos fotográficos, sino para comprender los distintos, pero similares que somos.

La poeta y gestora cultural Vielsi Arias es la primera persona a quien quiero dedicar esta publicación, por además de ser una entrañable amiga, también mi primer modelo para los retratos.

Esta sesión se hizo en una casa antigua e histórica de Valencia, Venezuela.

La luz que manejé fue natural, dándole a la protagonista espontaneidad como ella misma. En un principio estábamos nerviosos, pero luego todo fue fluyendo poco a poco.

Mientras le tomaba foto le hacía preguntas. Incluso pedí que me hablara acerca de ella como poeta.

Vielsi tiene libros publicados como Transeúnte, Los Difuntos, Luto de los Árboles y Mandato de puertas, La luna es mi pueblo, memorias del pintor Cristóbal Ruiz (historia de vida).

Los temas que más trascienden en su obra son la casa, el paisaje y la memoria. Una poética del lugar.

"Para mí la poesía es un artefacto poderoso que atenta contra la sociedad de consumo. Un ser que piensa no puede estar seducido por los valores de esta", me dijo mucho tiempo después de la sesión.

La fotografía también puede ser interpretada como poesía en imágenes, y quiero creer que lo logré con Vielsi.
