My experience as a unit photographer in "El Teléfono", a Venezuelan short film (ENG-ESP)
Besides photography, film also interests me as a means of information-expression.
Since I started studying it, I've met some great people. My friend Francisco is one, who told me to become a microphonist and still photographer, or as he called it, microfomaking.
For obvious reasons, I liked the experience more as a photofixer. And it is exciting to capture the moment when an audiovisual production team is in full action.
That's how I participated during two days of shooting the short film directed by Jaime Castellanos, El Teléfono, made in Valencia, Venezuela.
Además de la fotografía, el cine también me interesa como medio de información-expresión.
Desde que empecé a estudiarlo, he conocido gente genial. Mi amigo Francisco es uno, quien me dijo para ser microfonista y foto fija, o como él lo llamó, microfomaking.
Por razones obvias, me gustó más la experiencia como fotofija. Y es que es emocionante capturar el momento en que un equipo de producción audiovisual está en plena acción.
Es así como participé durante dos días de rodaje del cortometraje El Teléfono, dirigido por Jamie Castellanos, en Valencia, Venezuela.
It is a drama-suspense short film, set in the industrial Valencia of the 90s. A man is convinced by his family that his family has a problem. A man is convinced by his family to install a landline phone at home. After a few days, they begin to receive bad news through it, which increases their distrust towards the device. After losing everything, including his family, he decides not to answer the phone anymore. Some time later, while away from home, he receives a mysterious call on a stranger's cell phone.
This is the synopsis, given to me by the production team.
Se trata de un cortometraje de drama-suspenso, ambientado en la Valencia industrial de los 90. Un hombre es convencido por su familia de instalar un teléfono fijo en casa. Luego de unos días comienzan a recibir malas noticias a través de este, lo cual va aumentando su desconfianza hacia el aparato. Tras perderlo todo, incluso a su familia, decide no contestar el teléfono nunca más. Un tiempo después, estando fuera de casa, recibe una misteriosa llamada a través del teléfono celular de un extraño.
Esta es la sinopsis, que me dio el equipo de producción.
During these days of shooting, I realized how difficult it is to make films, and how any detail can have a negative influence, or the opposite, on the audiovisual product.
The unit still photographer experience helped me to be the eye that recorded the hard work of the cast and everyone involved that made this short film possible, filmed mostly inside a house, which was lent by two kind and nice people.
It is during these moments that I value working together, and how each person is an important cog.
Durante estos días de rodaje, me percaté de lo difícil que es hacer cine, y cómo cualquier detalle puede influir negativamente o todo lo contrario, en el producto audiovisual.
La experiencia de fotofija me ayudó a ser el ojo que registrara el arduo trabajo del elenco y de todos los involucrados que hicieron posible este cortometraje, grabado en su mayoría dentro de una casa, que fue prestada por dos personas amables y lindas.
Es durante estos momentos en que valoro el trabajo en conjunto, y cómo cada persona es un engranaje importante.

Wow! Que gran experiencia, yo también vivo en Valencia y siempre me hubiese gustado estudiar cine, s me iban los ojos cada vez que pasaba cerca de la academia. Siento curiosidad por este corto, me gustaría verlo.
Nunca es tarde para hacerlo. En la escuela de cine Arte y Efectos puedes comenzar :D
En eso tienes razón pero existe otro factor importante que también se vuelve un impedimento, el dinero jeje, si no fuese por eso ya estuviese estudiando cine.

Es genial ver que diste todo lo mejor formando parte de la producción de un pequeño filme; sabiendo que solo grabar y editar con lo que tengas a la mano llega a ser un reto considerando la parte de los ángulos y formas de grabar (además de edición coherente y utilizar diferentes tomas para una misma escena), me imagino que debió de haber más presión teniendo que utilizar correctamente todo el equipo profesional de grabación.
Felicidades por tu participación en este filme! Y también felicidades al resto de los involucrados con lo mucho que debió tomar en esfuerzo para hacer realidad esta producción :)

Que emocionante debió ser para ti, me recuerdas a unos de los usuarios que dijo que también llego a probar algo de cine en su país, debe ser un sueño poder hacer lo que te gusta y vivir experiencias como estas y me alegra saber que fue producida en Venezuela.
