Meet Johnny Cocuy, the Maker of a Magical Drink- ENG-ESP
I met a middle-aged man who sells a traditional alcoholic beverage called cocuy, originally prepared in Venezuela from a plant.
This is what Johnny told me, whom I nicknamed Johnny Cocuy.
He has his stall in a popular market, and at least during the minutes I was with him, customers and other people came up to ask him about prices.
He would tell them, and also for which pain the different cocuy variants were good.
"It's used for rheumatism, even as an aphrodisiac," says Johnny, who is no doctor but certainly has knowledge of this drink, which he mixes with other plants like aloe vera, lemongrass, or even hibiscus flower, for a specific type of pain.
"If you add onions to cocuy, it can help with the flu," he says after offering me a shot with hibiscus flower, which, according to him, serves as an aphrodisiac.
Johnny laughs after giving it to me, asserting that it works.
"Maybe you don't need it now, but you will when you're old," he burst out laughing.
A lady asked Johnny if he had cocuy for cakes, to which he nodded and told her the price.
Then another middle-aged man arrived, complaining of a leg pain after being hit by a ball while playing softball.
He bought a bottle and limped away.
"Here in this market, there are good, entrepreneurial people working for the country," said Johnny Cocuy.
