Agnosticism and the Lens: Documenting Faith (ENG-ESP)-Monomad challenge

I was once asked why I photograph religious ceremonies and rituals if I'm an atheist.

Well, first, I'm not an atheist; I'm agnostic.

And this doesn't mean I'm not interested in documenting experiences that represent views entirely different from, and even contrary to, my own. In fact, it's better that way, because it opens my eyes and takes me out of my comfort zone.

Una vez me preguntaron por qué fotografiaba ceremonias y rituales religiosos si soy ateo.

Bueno, primero, no soy ateo, sino agnóstico.

Y esto no significa que no me interese registrar experiencias que representen visiones totalmente diferentes y contrarias a la mía. De hecho, es mejor así, porque de ese modo abro los ojos y salgo de mi zona de confort.

This doesn't change my way of thinking or my philosophy of life, but attending ceremonies like these is a reminder of how vast and diverse humanity is. It's a double-edged sword, because that diversity has also led to all kinds of conflicts.

So, attending helps me tolerate differences and also understand why society functions the way it does. In fact, it helps raise many more questions that challenge existence and, of course, coexistence.

Esto no cambia mi manera de pensar ni mi filosofía de vida, pero asistir a ceremonias de este tipo es un recordatorio de lo extensa y diversa que es la humanidad. Es un arma de doble filo, porque esa diversidad también ha traído todo tipo de conflictos.

Así que asistir me ayuda a tolerar la diferencia y también a comprender por qué la sociedad funciona de ese modo. De hecho, contribuye a generar muchas más preguntas que cuestionan la existencia y, por supuesto, la coexistencia.

Documenting beyond my own beliefs is part of my vision, and anything that helps contribute to the search for answers—I'll be there for it.
