A tradition of resistance? (ENG-ESP)-Monomad challenge

The image holds sound in my memories: chants, and a specific kind of howl uttered by participants in a religious activity. This ceremony reflects the cultural diversity of a nation that, like many around the world, was colonized. This colonization brought enslaved people from Africa, far from their homeland, while the Indigenous inhabitants were decimated and subjected to the conquering culture.

This is how three cultures—Indigenous, European, and African—fused amidst a process that was far from friendly for those who lived through its beginnings. Yet, in the future, their descendants experience it with both conscious and unconscious awareness of what transpired, transforming it into something new that became tradition.

La imagen tiene sonido en mis recuerdos: cánticos y una especie de aullido que emiten los participantes de una actividad religiosa. Esta es el reflejo de la diversidad cultural de un país que, como muchos en el mundo, fue colonizado.

Consigo trajeron a personas de África para ser esclavizadas en una tierra lejana a la suya, mientras que aquellos que vivían allí también fueron diezmados y sometidos a la cultura conquistadora.

My point is that initial processes are rarely ideal. In fact, they often leave many victims. I'm not saying this is how it should be, only that with the passage of time, new cultural expressions emerge, born of blood, sweat, and tears. And I question whether continuing these traditions is an act of resistance.

If it is, then it's a way to remember the victims who struggled to live in the land where they were born—a place that is precisely a mix of entirely different cultures, yet found together there.

Mi punto es que los procesos en sus inicios rara vez son los mejores; de hecho, a menudo hay muchas víctimas. No digo que así deba ser, solo que con el paso del tiempo surgen nuevas expresiones culturales a base de sangre, sudor y lágrimas. Me cuestiono si llevarlas a cabo es un acto de resistencia.

Si la respuesta es afirmativa, es una forma de recordar a las víctimas que lucharon por vivir en un pedazo de tierra donde nacieron. Precisamente ese lugar es una mezcla de culturas totalmente diferentes que, sin embargo, se encuentran allí.

Rejecting this tradition is also valid, because many lives were subjugated. Ultimately, the prevailing religion is Catholicism, stemming from Europe, which brought with it a set of values that reigned supreme and became an integral part of the country.

Whatever the reason, the truth is what we see today: diversity.

En caso de rechazar esta tradición, también es válido, porque muchas vidas fueron sometidas. Al final, la religión que prevalece es la católica, proveniente de Europa, que trajo consigo una serie de valores que reinaron y forman parte del país.

Sea cual sea la razón, la verdad es el resultado que vemos: diversidad.
