Checking in from Poland!
After the last few intense weeks I finally have a chance to slow down. I'm still at home, enjoying my vacation before heading back on the road. A few years ago I would never have believed that one day I'd enjoy staying at home this much. 😁But I guess there comes a moment in everyone's life when, instead of chasing the next destination, you simply need to sit down, relax and do absolutely nothing for a while.
While going through my portfolio my thoughts returned to a rye field I photographed about three weeks ago near Cologne.
This week's Hive contest organized by @qurator is all about lines and I immediately thought... I might already have something that fits the theme perfectly.
The longer I looked at these photographs, the less I saw ears of rye and the more I noticed hundreds of delicate lines crossing, overlapping and creating surprisingly complex patterns. From a distance the whole field looks almost identical — a single golden surface stretching towards the horizon. But once you get closer, that illusion quickly disappears.
Every awn bends in a slightly different direction. Every ear catches the evening light from a different angle. Together they create something that reminds me less of a cereal crop and more of an abstract drawing made entirely by nature.
That's exactly why I enjoy macro photography so much. It encourages me to slow down and notice details that most of us pass by without a second thought.
