GOLDEN PETALS FROM NORWAY

Last week I was in Norway and had a chance to explore Kristiansand a little. I took quite a lot of photos there, so sooner or later the city itself will definitely appear on my profile. Today, however, I want to show you something a little different from that trip. One of the things that really surprised me in Norway was the amount of greenery and flowers everywhere. I have not visited enough Norwegian cities to say whether they all look like this, but Kristiansand definitely turned out to be a very green and, let's call it, botanical kind of place.
While walking around the city, I found these flowers growing right next to the cathedral. I think it was actually the first time in my life I had ever seen them. I had never noticed them growing anywhere before and, surprisingly, I do not remember seeing them even in any of the botanical gardens I have visited. Of course, that meant one thing — I had to take some photos. 😄 Only later did I find out that what I had photographed was RUDBEKIA.
RUDBEKIA belongs to the daisy family and originally comes from North America. Depending on the species, it can be an annual, biennial or perennial plant. Its flowers are usually easy to recognize thanks to their yellow or golden petals and a very distinctive central disk. The genus was named by Carl Linnaeus after the Swedish botanists Olof Rudbeck the Elder and Olof Rudbeck the Younger. These flowers are also useful for wildlife, attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators, while their seeds can later become food for birds.
What caught my attention most while photographing them was their structure. From a distance they simply look like pretty yellow flowers, but once you get closer, especially to the center, there is suddenly a huge amount of texture and tiny detail to photograph. So today I am sharing the more natural frames from this little Norwegian discovery — some wider views, some close-ups and, of course, a few shots where I got as close as possible. Apparently even a walk around a cathedral can unexpectedly turn into a small flower photo session. 😄
