FRAMING THE EVERYDAY

Recently, I’ve been feeling a bit tired. There was also less time for writing posts, but posts won’t write themselves, so I had to pull myself together a bit and write another one. Today there won’t be any thematic series. Today will be photos from my blog series Single Frame Journeys — single frames that carry a smaller or bigger story.
As the first photo today, I’m sharing an image of a hand knocking on an old door. I think this shot fits perfectly with the current theme of the Qurator’s Photo Quest. Below is a short story of how this photo came to life.
I spent a weekend in France. I had planned to visit the town of Compiegne together with a colleague from work, but the train didn’t arrive that day, so we decided to just walk around the area. While checking Google Maps, we noticed a small castle we wanted to reach. It turned out, however, that the castle is private property, surrounded by walls, and not open to visitors. The only thing we could really see there were these old doors with a horseshoe.
For me, those doors had a really strong character — you could clearly see the marks of time on them. And the horseshoe completed the whole scene perfectly. At that moment, I came up with the idea to take a few shots of the old doors, and since I had a “model” right next to me, I asked my colleague to act as if he was knocking on the door — and that’s how I captured this moment.
I also have to say that this photo sold very quickly on a stock platform right after I published it. And today, it turned out to be a perfect fit for the curator’s contest.

The next photo was taken exactly a year ago, when spring was slowly starting to knock on our doors and windows. I was in Germany, stopped at an intersection at a red light. I looked to the left and really liked this spring view. So I grabbed my camera, opened the truck window and took the shot.
Nothing special, nothing extraordinary really, and yet I believe this photo has something about it. I also have a certain sentiment towards it, because it was the first photo I managed to sell on stock platforms.

Hay bales. This photo was also taken last year, right at the beginning of the harvest season. I remember I was actually on the lookout for hay bales, because I find them very photogenic, and these were the first ones I managed to come across. Unfortunately, I didn’t really have much time to take different shots or get closer, so I quickly took just a few photos to at least satisfy that initial urge.
This photo was taken in Poland, by national road number 11, on my way to a delivery in Poznan.

The next photo comes from my holiday in Cyprus, more precisely from Famagusta, when we took a one-day trip to this city. We were walking around the old town and I was looking for interesting frames, and this ivy caught my attention. It looked really nice on that hanger mounted outside the house, right next to the door, and I thought it would be a good idea to capture this plant in a photo.

In the next photo, we can see one of the rides — more precisely, the well-known Ferris wheel. I took this shot in Slovakia, when I was having my weekend break in the city of Trencin. While walking around the city, I came across a local fair. Every photographer should take advantage of the opportunities that appear along the way, so I did the same here. I took a few shots, and I think they turned out quite decent.

And finally, something for those with a sweet tooth — including me. 😁The photo shows sweet cupcakes. I took this shot at my godson’s birthday party. He was celebrating his eighteenth birthday, so the table was full of various sweets and treats. These cupcakes were especially tempting, so they definitely deserved a little photo session. They were delicious!
