Firefighting Ladder-truck in action, extinguishing large apartment complex
Just Another strange coincidence to keep record of. Obviously not a good one. Fire strikes again in my neighborhood. What is happening? That's the 3rd apartment building that has burned down in 6 months and a some single detached homes that was also deliberately set.
The first and second were likely started in the back where it is most common below children's bedrooms. A 4 unit complex takes about 15 minutes to burn down and as displayed in the last fire picture post/record, it can easily jump and damage adjacent buildings with one narrowly escaping the blaze itself. This one was a result of domestic violence allowed to escalade. Nobody hearing until it's too late.
I don't know the full details of this fire and probably never will. This time, a housing complex with probably over 100 apartment units caught on fire in the evening. I didn't hear of any deaths but perhaps some burn injuries.
Several services battled for many hours, it took about 3 hours to get it under control, part of the roof looks undamaged but it was burning on the inside and as soon as they started spraying it, the whole roof blasted apart. Animal control also present to help collect pets and bring them to safety and take missing pets from evacuees with furry loved ones still inside needing rescue.
The local fire department likely needed assistance form other near-by departments as there was probably over 20 fire trucks or more of all kinds to assist in the containment and assist evacuees. I had a chance to walk around and take a closer look at the equipment used of course staying out of the boundaries so everyone can move freely to do their job.
There was a police blockade a block ahead to keep vehicle traffic out. Only pedestrian and other emergency personnel. I tried to report to him this was the 3rd major fire incident set in the area in just a few months by arson. He shooed me away. I suppose he must have been busy standing there. Witness reports that could link to other crimes don't matter. I guess he had better things to do. Watch the road then dude. Thanks for helping record crimes at a scene of a crime... as usual. I give up.
Why can't I seem to report real crimes anywhere? Was this one deliberately set too? I'll let you know maybe the next apartment building that burns down in my neighborhood, maybe then someone might care. Funny, a year ago, I was at the rental office asking them to set up security cameras on the premises due to several vehicle and apartment break-ins. They laughed me out of there too. Who's laughing now? I'm still not but I bet neither are they. Are they complicit in some way? Insurance fraud? So many questions so very few answers.
By my neighborhood, I mean we either shared a parking lot or just across the street as in I can look out my window, see and walk over there. That close, over and over. I wonder if they will put up cameras now. Probably not, cost too much money. A main office in Calgary thinks it isn't necessary, people have doorbell cams these days, that's plenty. MMMMM...okay. How about when I have one and still don't feel safe? Nope, time to jack up the rent...we're a few units short...it's cutting into profits.
The fire crews did an excellent job as usual. Edmonton has well trained and equipped fire department. It's probably still short on many aspects as crimes across the city escalade, also becoming more violent in nature...Well I suppose when you can't report crime anywhere and I'm not going to beg a police officer to listen to me. I know I have always fallen on def ears. It's a trend since I was little.
Thank you for your smile and pose Mr. Fireman, that was sweet and heart warming in such a chaotic event. He was obviously one of the easier to access for photography as he mans the equipment on the ground and additional water tanker fire truck at a safer distance for fire where it was safe for pedestrian traffic as evacuees located their family members and waited for further instructions on where to go from now. They did send city buses to pick them up and bring them someplace.
That's just a small portion of the displaced families. Hundreds of people don't have a home to go to tonight. Many of them being young families with small children. I tried to help a woman and her baby look for her loved ones while I walked around. Luckily she found them a few minutes later. Just imagine the feeling in your heart.
For the most part, all emergency personnel did a great job at maintaining order in the chaos and help evacuees get organized and safe from the event. I mean, a unit with over 100 apartments, that has to be quite a scene to maintain calm.
I still don't really understand why I'm so invisible. I can't even report crime. I didn't even bother reporting my own attempt murder/ cyanide coffee (well the last one at least, didn't care to hear about the previous attempts...better things to do I guess), by the time I was out of the Rockies, there probably wasn't much trace of the cyanide by then and my heart was back to ok-ish, the god-hallucinations/experience...what ever that even was (it was still real just have to be in a state of hallucination to do so, why ppl do shaman psychedelic's and all that other weird stuff. lasted a while tho, I don't even think you can trace that anyway.
Fire crews as they switch-out workers for a much needed rest and hydration on an already hot day. The equipment they wear is extremely heavy and they all had oxygen tanks on their backs previously. I wear those tanks for work, even the newer lightweight design can wear on you after a while, I don't even want to imagine in circumstances like this.
There wasn't even any point to report anything ever. Sad state of affairs. It's re-traumatizing and nobody will believe it anyway and even if they do. Especially not when it happens to my other half with what I think was a drink tainted with the drug tranq at another social event, boxing. I often question why I bothered surviving. I kind of regret it more and more.
The last view is from the backside, most of the activity was at the front with easier access via road compared to parking-lot. That entire roof is gone.
In the meantime, I'll just be patiently awaiting my turn to get burned down I guess. It's starting to get slim pickings in the buildings still standing to set on fire by whatever unhinged whatever is going on here. Good opportunity to review the importance of a fire escape plan with your family, the just in case has become real quite a few times these days.
Stay safe. xox
UPDATE The fire took 60 firefighters 3 hrs to get under control and 10 hours to extinguish, 2 critical burn injuries.
Dear @ladyrainbow that is so sad to think about all those families without a home after the fires. It is also sad that the law enforcement were not taking your reports more seriously. For that I am sorry.
Wish you the best,
Joe
