Sublime Fall Sunday in Vermont

avatar

Fall colors seemed a little muted this year and haven't stuck around long at all. We're already past prime leaf peeping time, which was also short this year. I've been so busy at work haven't really had much time to get out. I did snap a few shots of the nearby meadow.

You can clearly see the changes, these are taken within a couple days of each other.

The Apple trees have now lost most of their leaves and actually now most of their apples as well. This was from 2 weeks ago. Only about 5 apples still hanging now. We picked some for snacking and pies, and the rest are for the deer.

Here is that same apple tree a month ago.

And then we have these white, hairy caterpillars. We've always called them "woolly buggers". We used to see them with varied levels of brown and black, and try to judge the harshness of the winter by how much brown and how much black. What would a white one mean??? Yikes! A little research shows that this is a Hickory Tussock Moth Caterpillar and will turn into a moth at some point.

Autumn is the most beautiful and colorful time of the year. Adore! Thanks for the photos.

This Autumn has been a spectacular one. The colors of the trees have hung around for longer than usual.

Your apple trees look like they had a good year. Nature sure is funny from one year to the next. This year we only got a few apples, the Walnut trees produced zero nuts, and the pinecones that usually hand from the conifers like a bunch of bananas, produced but a handful of cones.

Was definitely a big Apple year for us. Had to be at least triple what we saw last year. This is only our second year here, so not sure yet which is more normal. Lot's of blackberries and raspberries as well. Good for the fruit and the wildlife for sure.

Lots of berries this way also, just no apples.
