Full Moon Photography in Florida

So far we are loving the move to Florida. Just starting to get settled in and broke the camera out tonight for the full moon.

I've been lax on posting lately, lot's of drama in personal and work life. It was refreshing to get out to something I enjoy for a bit.

It's been so long, my first set of pics were way over-exposed and I had to go back out for a second round after changing settings. Still experimenting, but this seems to have come out fairly well. The first shot is cropped a bit, the second two shots below are normal view.

I did just a touch of post-processing for brightness/contrast.

This months full moon is called the "pink moon". Not because it's pink, but because it's the time of year the ground phlox start blooming across North America. It's also associated with rebirth, renewal, and growth. It is often associated with releasing the old and embracing the new.

This has much personal significance to me, with all of that drama I mentioned earlier. I am really looking forward to putting many things behind and moving forward with some major new changes in my life.

How about you? Is it time for a change in your life? Tell me about it in the comments.

Taken with Sony A7RIV, 200-600 zoom lens tripod and remote release.
Manual focus mode
iso 50
f6.3
1/800 sec shutter priority
(-3step)
Original RAW file was 58.5 MB, reduced for format, crop, and posting.

Enjoy!

Wow just wow!! I also have a shot like this and it amazes me how beautiful the moon really is.

Me too. I just love seeing the crater details and how each shot can be so different.

It's great to hear that the move is working out. Hopefully all of the drama will subside very soon and you can get back enjoying everyday without shit hanging over you.

Wonderful pics of the moon, an object that I think everyone has tried to photograph, including myself, but with not as much detail that you have captured.

Peace, my friend.

Thanks, the last bit of work drama seems to be coming to a head. Now it's just lining up the new gig before it goes away and funds get too tight.

There were many shots on the cutting room floor or trash bin this time. I'm very much out of practice, but bracket, bracket, bracket. I made multiple shots at different settings to finally get the exposure right, and then just a touch of photoshop, but pleased with the results. One of these times I'll get the one to frame for the wall.

With as long as I've been taking pictures, most of the time for a #hive post, you would think that I would learn how to make adjustments to the camera. One of these days I'll give it a go instead of always using the auto setting.

I grew up in with an early SLR, many years before "auto" came about and took a few classes on it and used to develop and print my own b/w. It's definitely worth taking a class or learning to perform some of the basics in manual mode for certain effects. It's amazing what a difference changing the iso, shutter speed, and aperture can make.

Very tempting, I just need to sit down and dedicate some time to it.

The move was quite the adventure, but all aligned timewise at the end. Down to one side of garage to unpack and put away, may end up renting a storage unit so we can actually fit a car in the garage.

I'm surprised you need to keep your car in the garage down there! :)

Actually just a carport for some shade would be perfect, but we don't have that either.

Goddamn! What a marvellous shot. This is probably the clearest shot of the Moon I’ve seen in a while. Good job! 👏🏻

Thank you it is sharper than my last one a year or two ago. I did the manual focus in "super-zoom" mode this time which seemed to do better than the auto-focus.

Hello there, thought you might like that one! It is so nice to see the moon so often here in Florida compared to Vermont! I was worried that moving closer to the city lights would impact the viewing, but it's so much nicer not having the clouds nearly all the time.

Hey, was the eclipse not seen?

Nope, we moved about 2-3 weeks before the eclipse. Hated to miss it, but did not want to delay the house sale and move. I still miss our meadow, but very glad we made the move. Hope to be caught up on unpacking and start getting out more soon. Just got my photo membership at local rookery, which apparently is in prime nesting and breeding season for the next several weeks. Excited to get a day to go there with the camera soon.

Iron Horse still there, drive past it several times a week, but haven't stopped in yet. Give a shout if you get over this way and I'll meet you for a beer!

Sounds good.

I rarely leave my zip code when I am not in the Prime Mover.

But ya never know.

Same goes for ya'll if ya ever take a tour of the north central area. 👍
