Our Community Garden In The Province: A Government Required Garden of Vegetables

1000012043.png
Hello hardworking gardeners of this amazing hive garden community. Today I will show you the vegetables present at the community garden of ours. Our local government requires us to plant vegetables in front of our houses spaces. We don't have a space so our community decided to have it across the road fronting each of our houses. Actually the health center gave us seeds to plant like pechay, eggplant, okra, kangkong and many more so it's up to us if we plant it together or after each season.
So here's some pictures I captured in our garden.

This is a pechay. This is difficult to take care because there's lots of insects around so I have to spray in the morning and afternoon. I love this in pork soup.
1000009471.jpg
This is the eggplant. I love this vegetable because it has lots of harvest and it will take more months before it dies. I love this grilled, fried and a salad.
1000009470.jpg
This is tomato. I love tomatoes when green. I like its crunch. It's difficult to raise a tomato but when there's lot of harvest it's pretty sure not tiring at all. Tomatoes are spices in my community for sweet and sour on fish recipes, fish soup and many more but not so particular.
1000009474.jpg
We called this locally as alugbati. It's a vine with so slimy leaves perfect for a vegetable soup we called "law-uy" This is easy to grow but it needs more water.
1000009468.jpg
This one is the onion leaves. A lot of people here had this plant on the garden because this is very useful in every recipe either soup, fried or even grilled.

1000009473.jpg
This is the local chili. This is the oldest variety of chili. This is the most spicy among other chili in town. We love spicy foods so we must have some of this in the garden. Aside from the community garden we also have it beside our kitchen. So it's easy for me to get when I need it. Hahaha.
1000009478.jpg
This one is ginger. It is best when planted on socks. But ginger must be look after everyday because there is this ginger sickness that when attacked by insects this will eventually die so it must be treated earlier to avoid spreading all over other ginger.
1000009475.jpg
Sweet potato tops is the best when you are anemic. The reason why we have this because my father had s big plantation of sweet potato at the farm faraway from our house and I love the leaves of this crop for a salad.
1000009481.jpg
Okra is my favorite vegetable. Sometimes when I harvest it I will eat it directly as fresh as it is. I love this steamed or fried with other vegetables like pinakbet recipe. This is very easy to grow and it will lasts for more months just like the eggplant.
1000009472.jpg
Lemon grass is very essential to fish and chicken soup. But the most popular food that uses lots of lemongrass is lechon (while grilled pig) and other cow and carabao soup recipes.
1000009476.jpg
Likway is a leafy vegetable that is so slimy and perfect for noodle soup recipe. It's hard to grow this plant because it's the insect's favorite place so I have to spray soap solution twice a day.
1000009477.jpg
Kangkong is also named five fingers in our town. This is best for soup but for me the best recipe for this is fried savory with noodles or with pork. This is very simple to grow it doesn't need any care at all even no water everyday or just waiting for a rainy day it still alive.
1000009482.jpg
Lastly the malunggay. Malunggay leaves for me is the most essential vegetable a home must have. This has lots of benefits to our body. It's difficult to start a malunggay tree because if someone touches it or squeeze it there's a hundred percent it wi die. The most needed substance of a malunggay tree is a smoke. The more smoke it got the more leaves it produces.

This is quite a long garden from our house to the neighboring house towards the end of the road. I think this community garden runs almost 1 kilometer. I'm happy our government let us do this. It helps us a lot in our budget. It keeps the community clean too.
Thank you everyone for reading my blog. I hope you like seeing our locally grown vegetables.

I really like ginger because it’s not only good for cooking but also nice to boil and drink, especially when I feel cold. It’s very healthy for the body. I also like sweet potato leaves, I prefer them for fish soup instead of the red leaves. They taste so good even if I just sauté them.

Wow - your government mandates you grow vegetables? How do they enforce it? I love this idea and if I ruled the world EVERYONE would have to have a garden, or at least one for each family. It'd make the people so much happier!

The government gave people money once every two months, and the only thing people has to do is to maintain the hardwork like planting, cleaning the community. It's recorded. If you won't join. You can't accept money
