The story of the red cotton tree in my village.
Hello everyone. From january to february every year, the red cotton tree, which is the symbol of the village where I live, blooms and falls to the ground. Thai people call the red cotton tree the "ton Ngiao". And my village is named after this kind of tree in thai language pa ngiao village. Because my village has 2 red cotton trees that are over 100 years old. In the past before this village was built, this area had many the red cotton trees and only 2 trees remained until now and it is the symbol of this village.
The two red cotton trees in my village are very tall and large. Everyone look at the photos of the 2 red cotton trees I shared and compare the size of the red cotton tree with the longan and the children in the photos. Everyone could see that the red cotton tree was much taller and bigger than the longan tree and the kids.
In january and february, kids and villagers scramble to pick the blossoms of the red cotton tree that has fallen from the tree to the ground. But the villagers and children had fun and enjoyed with scramble the flowers of the red cotton tree. I think it's more like a village play than a race to win. Some people pick up the flowers of the red cotton tree to sell. But some people pick up the flowers of the red cotton tree for cooking.
After picking the flowers of the red cotton tree, the petals must be plucked and the pollen of the flower dried for several days in the sun until the pollen withered. When the pollen of the flower has withered, it can be sold or used for cooking.
The pollen of the red cotton tree flower can be used to cook thai food which is a popular dish in the north of thailand. This menu is called kanom jeen nam ngiao. Delicious local food of the northern people of thailand.
Kanom jeen nam ngiao.
