Join the northern tradition at Wat Pa Mai Daeng, Chiang Mai, Thailand with my family. Enjoy old temple hundreds of years old with beautiful architecture, sculptures and shows
Hello everyone. Three days ago, I took wife, wife's mother, and granddaughter to Wat Pa Mai Daeng to join the northern tradition. This tradition is called slakkapat tradition, The tradition of the offering dedicated food and necessary things to monks in the temple and monks from other temples who come to participate in rituals at the temple that hosts the traditional (slakkapat), With the condition that each monk will draw lots to receive food or necessary things from each person who makes merit. This year my wife and I joined in the slakkapat tradition at several other temples in Chai Prakan districts and Fang districts. But wife's mother and granddaughter joined for the first time this year.
Wat Pa Mai Daeng is a large temple in Chai Prakan District, a district near the district where I live. And this temple is approximately 130 kilometers from Mueang Chiang Mai District. This temple is a famous and important temple of Chai Prakan District.
Wat Pa Mai Daeng is an ancient temple, not sure when temple was built. But from Chai Prakan city legend, this temple was built in the year A.D. 1056. And the temple was built by Phra Chao Phrom Maharat. This temple used to be an abandoned temple later A.D. 1972. The temple has been renovated until now. This is a brief history of the temple.
Atmosphere within the slakkapat traditional event at the temple this year there were many shows. Especially many thai traditional dance shows from people in various villages from many ethnic groups. And there is a thai traditional dance competition too. In addition, there will be thai traditional music show by the elderly too. But I photographed some of the thai traditional dance and thai traditional music shows from all the shows at the traditional event that day. All shows are in the front zone area which is a large garden.
I also took photos of the some atmosphere of making merit at traditional event and shops open for sale at this traditional event too.
When we finished watching the various performances and participating in making merit. So we see the architecture and sculptures in the temple. Wat Pa Mai Daeng has 5 small and large buddha image halls (viharn).
The first buddha image hall (viharn) is in the front area. We like this buddha image hall (viharn) more than the other buddha image hall (viharn). Because this buddha image hall (viharn) is decorated with beautiful Lanna style stucco patterns that are different from other buddha image hall (viharn). And we rarely see this style of decoration.
Inside this buddha image hall (viharn), on that day the monks performed religious ceremonies and we were not allowed to enter this buddha image hall (viharn).
The second buddha image hall (viharn) has a monument of Phra Chao Phrom Maharat inside. Phra Chao Phrom Maharat was the king who built the city of Chai Prakan. An ancient city in the past hundreds of years ago in this district. And was the king who built this temple too. This buddha image hall (viharn) was built and decorated in the original Lanna style and clearly has a unique Lanna style. And around this buddha image hall (viharn) there are many houses of angels too.
The monument of Phra Chao Phrom Maharat.
The third buddha image hall (viharn) is also a Lanna style buddha image hall (viharn). This buddha image hall (viharn) is made of wood painted brown and decorated with color gold patterns.
Inside this buddha image hall (viharn) is the body of the former abbot. And many carvings on the walls.
Area front of this buddha image hall (viharn) is a sculpture of the former abbot of this temple.
The fourth buddha image hall (viharn) is a small buddha image hall (viharn) that doesn't outstanding out much. And inside the buddha image hall (viharn) there is an old Buddha image.
The fifth buddha image hall (viharn). This buddha image hall (viharn) is an old buddha image hall (viharn). Inside this buddha image hall (viharn) is the Chai Prakan city pillar. And the sculptures of Phra Chao Phrom Maharat (The king who ruled the ancient city of Chai Prakan in the past).

the sculptures of Phra Chao Phrom Maharat.
The ordination hall (ubosot) of this temple is large and grandly built. And the ordination hall (ubosot) has entrance doors on 4 sides. Above the roof of the ordination hall (ubosot) there is a pagoda. Inside ordination hall (ubosot) is not open for people to enter.
This temple has 2 pagodas. I'm not sure when the old pagoda was built. I think old pagoda looks classic and worth preserving.
The new pagoda was built on a grand scale. The foundation of the pagoda is a large square room. In the middle is the color gold square and the top of the color gold bell-shaped pagoda. Surrounded by several small pagodas.
Inside the foundation of the pagoda, which is a large square room, there are 3 Buddha images and behind the Buddha images are beautifully decorated. In addition, the walls have many beautiful buddhist paintings.
Inside the temple there is also a large Lanna style pavilion, which is used as a place for religious ceremonies.
And we also enjoyed the many sculptures inside the temple. These are just some of the sculptures I photographed to share with everyone.
The atmosphere inside is shady with many trees and flowers.
These are the stories and photos I want to share for this post. Invite everyone to watch and enjoy my stories and photos. Have a great day. See you next time. Thank you for your support and visiting my post. Bye 🤗
