The day I was given a share of happiness
When I went shopping the other day, I noticed a bit of a celebratory atmosphere at the local supermarket. A lady picked up a pretty cupcake and had a bite with her husband. Her husband was drinking fresh coffee from a jar. There were two types of pretty cupcakes and fresh coffee at a table inside the supermarket, along with a sign that said “Happy Birthday!”
It was the store owner’s birthday. His staff had prepared a lovely celebration for him. It was just before lunchtime on Sunday, so everyone looked happy to have a small snack and take a break before or after shopping. Some people were eating cupcakes while shopping at the same time. Some kids looked so happy with the pretty cupcakes.
As soon as I saw the happy-looking owner’s face, I said, “Happy Birthday!” to him. He replied cheerfully and offered us cupcakes and coffee. We really appreciated it. After we finished shopping, there were fewer cupcakes left on the table, so I assumed that many people had enjoyed them.
I knew my husband loves chocolate cakes, so I asked him to have some cupcakes. He hesitated for a while, but then told me that he would like to have one. I grabbed two cupcakes and went outside. I saw some couples sitting on the bench in front of the store, eating cupcakes and drinking coffee.
The store was in the middle of renovation. Their limited space had been quite cozy, but sometimes there wasn’t enough room for people in the narrow aisle. Now, after reforming some of the areas, we have a more spacious aisle inside.
After eating and packing our groceries into the car, I noticed a cute ghost decoration smiling from a planter outside the store. I had seen this artwork at the farm market before. Someone had left one of the pieces there. It felt like a lovely art-sharing space.
I don’t have anything to share with you today, so I will share a morning photo from a few weeks ago instead. I know the car window wasn’t very clear, but the view was amazing. I really hope you can see and experience this view someday. In the early mornings in the mountains, we sometimes feel as if we are floating above the clouds. The town and the forest lie beneath the white clouds. I think this view is a treasure of nature, and I’m happy to share the beauty of the morning mountain view.

先日買い物に行ったとき、地元のスーパーがちょっとお祝いムードに包まれているのに気づきました。ある女性がかわいらしいカップケーキを手に取り、ご主人と一緒に食べていました。ご主人はジャーの淹れたてのコーヒーを飲んでいました。店内のテーブルには、2種類のかわいらしいカップケーキと、淹れたてのコーヒーが並び、そばには「Happy Birthday!」と書かれたサインがありました。
その日はお店のオーナーの誕生日で、スタッフの皆さんが素敵なお祝いを用意していたのです。ちょうど日曜日のお昼前で、買い物の前後に軽いおやつを楽しんでひと休みしている人たちの姿が見られました。買い物をしながらカップケーキを食べている人もいれば、かわいいカップケーキを見て嬉しそうにしている子どもたちもいました。
私は、にこにこしていたオーナーの顔を見て、すぐに「お誕生日おめでとうございます！」と声をかけました。オーナーは にこやかに、私たちにカップケーキとコーヒーをすすめてくれたので、その言葉をありがたく受け取りました。買い物を終えて戻ると、テーブルの上のカップケーキはけっこう減っていたので、多くの人が楽しんだのだろうと感じました。
主人がチョコレートケーキが好きなのを知っていたので、カップケーキを勧めてみました。しばらくためらっていましたが、「食べようかな」と言ったので、私はカップケーキを2つ手に取って店の外へ出ました。店の前のベンチでは、カップケーキを食べながらコーヒーを飲んでいるカップルたちが座っていました。
お店はちょうど改装の真っ最中です。以前は限られたスペースがこぢんまりしていて居心地はよかったのですが、細い通路では人とすれ違いにくいこともありました。今では一部がリフォームされ、店内の通路が広々としています。
カップケーキを食べ終わって買い物したものを車に積み終えたあと、外のプランターにかわいらしいおばけの飾りがにっこりと微笑んでいるのに気づきました。そのアート作品は以前、ファーマーズマーケットで見たことのあるものでした。誰かがここに作品をひとつ置いていったようで、ちょっとしたアートのシェアスペースのように感じられました。
私から特別にシェアできるものはありませんが、その代わりに数週間前の朝に撮った写真を共有します。車の窓があまりきれいではなかったのですが、それでもその景色は素晴らしかったのです。この景色をぜひ皆さんにも見て、体験してほしいと思います。
山の朝は、ときどきまるで雲の上に浮かんでいるような気持ちになることがあります。町や森が白い雲の下になっている光景はまさに自然の宝物だと思います。山の朝の美しい景色をこうして分かち合えることがうれしいです。
