Summer 2025 Garden Photography

As I wrote before, the dry weather is still damaging nature around us, and hiking, camping, and walking on the trails are banned here. I saw someone using a sprinkler for their garden, but water restrictions are also in effect. I water my garden using a watering can and give it only a minimal amount of water. To be honest, I want to give enough water to my garden every day, but I have to be conservative with water.

Yet, the wild plants on my property are still so pretty and beautiful. I always admire them. They can even grow through concrete. I don’t have any concrete on my property, but I do have some stepping stones, and the weeds and wildflowers grow between them as well. Some of the wildflowers are edible and medicinal.

I was taking evening photos the other day and captured Queen Anne’s Lace flowers, which are spread all over the ground. They are powerful medicinal plants. In this photo, they look even more elegant. As I mentioned, the dry weather has caused mountain fires on the west side of the country, so our sky is also affected. The pink and smoky sky creates a very mysterious background for the flowers.

Queen Anne’s Lace (Daucus carota) goes by several other names, depending on the region and context. Some call it wild carrot, bird’s nest, bishop’s lace, bee’s nest, or devil’s plague. Hmm… the last one sounds very scary, and I’ve never heard it before. “Wild carrot” seems to be the most common name. Even in Japanese, we call it by its Japanese name.

I love this angle of it. It has such a beautiful shape against the blue sky and white clouds. I can even see the sky through the spaces between the flowers.

I also love the yellow, smiley-looking black-eyed Susan. It hasn’t been damaged by the dry weather at all.

Eastern daisy fleabane is another very charming flower. My grandmother loved having them in her garden. I think I should share this photo with her.

I wrote about my blueberry bushes the other day. They produce healthy berries almost every day, and they taste pretty good this year! They don’t seem to be affected by the dryness at all, which makes me feel relieved.

When I tried to take a photo of a daisy, some bees appeared by coincidence. I’m glad that many different types of bees live on my property.

Here’s another. This one is a bumblebee on a thistle. I love bumblebees because they are so gentle. It’s fun to hang out with them in the yard. When I was picking vegetables, they came near me and stayed in the flowers for a while. Their buzzing sound makes me feel calm.

Lastly, it’s the corn. Hang in there! So far, it seems to be doing well this year, but I still don’t know how it will turn out.

２０２５年夏 庭の写真

ここしばらく続いている乾燥の天候について先日書きました 。そのため、ハイキング、キャンプやトレールを歩くことが禁じられています。近所で庭にスプリンクラーを使っている人を見かけました。しかし、水不足を防ぐために水の無駄遣いも禁止されているはずなのですが…。畑の野菜にはジョウロで水をあげることにしています。本当はホースでたっぷり水をあげたいのですが、無駄に使いすぎないようにジョウロで少しずつかけることにしています。

敷地内の野草はというと、乾燥にもかかわらずかなり元気な様子です。雑草はやっぱりすごいです。コンクリートを突き抜けて育つ雑草もあるくらいです。家にはコンクリートの部分はありませんが、飛び石をおいています。その石の周りにもたくさん雑草が生えてきます。雑草とはいっても、野草の中には食用のものもありますし、薬草もあります。

先日、夕方に写真を撮っていると、ノラニンジンが目に入りました。ノラニンジンはそこら中に咲いています。とても強い野草です。この写真の中では普段に増してエレガントに見えてきます。お伝えしたとおり、乾燥がひどいので、西部では山火事が起こっています。そのせいか、空の色がおかしいです。ピンクががったモヤが空にうっすらかかっていて、花がさらに魅惑的なイメージに見えます。

ノラニンジンには、他にもワイルドキャロット、バーズネスト、ビショップズレース、ビーズネストやデビルズプレイグなど、さまざまな呼び方があります。デビルズブレイクは初めて知りましたが、怖い名前ですね。ワイルドキャロットはいわゆるノラニンジンですね。

このアングルは素敵です。青空と白い雲にきれいな花が映えます。花の間から空が透けて見えます。

笑顔のブラックアイドスーザンの黄色い花が可愛らしいです。乾燥にも負けずに元気に咲いています。

ヒメジョオンの花も可愛らしいです。祖母の庭にも咲いていて、好きな花でした。この写真を祖母にも見せてあげることにします。

ブルーベリーの木について先日書きました。おいしそうな実がなっていて、毎日ブルーベリーがとれます。乾燥にも負けず、特にダメージがなく元気に育っています。

デイジーの花の写真を撮ろうとしたとき、偶然、蜂が飛んできました。庭にはいろいろな種類の蜂がいるので嬉しいです。

これはマルハナバチがアザミの花にとまっている写真です。マルハナバチは優しいので好きです。庭で一緒に過ごすのは楽しいです。野菜をとっていると、横にやってきて花にとまります。蜂のブーンという音が心地よいです。

最後はとうもろこしです。がんばれ！今年は今のところ順調そうですが、これからどうなるかはまだわかりません。
