Spring Walk

We no longer have thick snow here, but it's still very cold, with temperatures below 0 degrees today. However, I sense spring emerging compared to a few weeks ago.

While walking down the street with my dog and husband, I noticed the usual sight of cans sticking to the maple trees. Our neighbor typically taps maple trees around late February or early March. This is my favorite scene in early spring. Soon, this person will craft tasty homemade maple syrup.

Can you spot the bird? Do you recognize which bird it is? Yes, it's a Woody woodpecker. They are exceptionally beautiful, and their vocalizations are amazing. They produce sounds reminiscent of a cartoon and have a variety of distinct calls. They are truly talented birds.

Now, do you see the two goats in this picture? One is black, and the other is brown. Do you notice the mini tombstone? That is for the previous dog of this house, whose tombstone we named "Kuro-kun." 'Kuro' means black, 'kun' means boy in Japanese. Kuro-kun was wild and pretty and used to be an outside dog. The winter was tough for him, I suppose. Now, the house has an indoor dog. I'm glad they keep their new dog indoors.

My dog wants to be friend them. I believe he can, although he can be a bit clumsy at times. Hopefully, we can visit them again soon

春の散歩

厚く降り積もった雪がすっかりとけましたが、まだまだ寒い日が続いていて今日は零度を下回りました。それでも、数週間前と比べると確実に春の気配を感じます。

主人と犬の散歩をしていると、メープルの木に缶が取り付けられている恒例の光景を目にしました。近所の方はたいてい２月下旬から３月初旬にかけて蜜をためる缶を木に取り付けています。これは私が好きな春の光景です。このご近所さんはもうじき、美味しいメープルシロップを作ることでしょう。

この写真の中には鳥がいます。見えますか？はい、そうです。ウッディー・ウッドペッカーです。彼らの鳴き声は素晴らしいです。まさにアニメのウッディーのように面白い鳴き方をしますし、他にもいくつかの鳴き声をもっています。とても多才な鳥です。

お次はヤギが見えますか？１匹は黒で、もう１匹は茶色のヤギです。それから手前に小さなお墓も見えますね。これはこのお家で前に飼っていた「クロくん」のお墓です。クロくんは黒い外犬でした。とてもやんちゃでかわいらしい犬だったのですが、外で生きるのは過酷だったと思います。新しい犬は家の中で飼っているようで安心します。

私の犬はみんなと友だちになりたがります。なれるとは思うのですが、少々不器用なようでなかなかすぐには仲良くはできそうにありません。また近々彼らに会いに来たいと思います。
