Skate Park

I don't skateboard, but I enjoy watching people skateboard, whether in person or in videos and movies. My favourite skateboard movie is Lords of Dogtown. I also like the movie Kids. It’s fun to watch the skateboarding scenes.

I’ve always wished I could skateboard, but I'm not very good at using a board. I'm good at skiing, skating, and rollerblading, or roller skating, but somehow snowboarding and skateboarding are very challenging for me. Maybe it’s because my feet are stuck on one board, which makes me feel unfree and uncomfortable. Actually, on a skateboard, my feet aren’t strapped in, so it sounds more comfortable in that way.

I knew this skate park was built in a nearby town, but I had never checked it out before. My husband likes skating, but he hasn’t had a chance to come here for a long time.

We visited in the morning, so nobody was there. I like seeing an empty skate park, but I also enjoy the image of a packed park full of cool riders.

This is the nearest entrance. The ground looks pretty smooth and well-made.

This board holder looks really useful. Someone has already customized it with cool stickers.

Wow, this section looks great. In my hometown, people used regular parks to practice skateboarding, which caused a lot of noise and safety issues. But here, skaters don’t need to worry about that, they can practice freely.

The wide space is also impressive. There are mini trick areas here and there.

This is the edge of the large main bowl I showed at the beginning. Around the bowl, people can also practice.

Wow, this spot looks great for practice. I see a lot of marks on it people probably film cool videos here.

These bumpy stones look like a fun challenge.

Even this flat-looking area would be hard for me if I tried it. The park is also open to bikes. On the welcome board, it says that skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, bikes, and sport wheelchairs are all allowed.

That’s awesome! Sports wheelchairs sound very cool. The smooth, flat ground is perfect for all types of wheels.

This view is from the other side of the big bowl. There stands to cheer the borders. I see a helmet in the bowl. This looks pretty good!

Seeing this skate park reminds me of my hometown. Near the closest train station, there used to be a skate park with a basketball court for three-on-three, next to a gateball park and a large public park.

There were always young people hanging out. I loved seeing that. I used to hang out at that skate park when I was younger. But eventually, people started complaining about it.

It was the perfect place for street basketball players, skateboarders, and youth to spend time. But some adults who disliked the subculture removed everything except for the gateball area. It was sad to see the space become empty.

We need places like this skate park in our society.

Here’s the same view as the first photo again. I can imagine skaters having a great time here. It’s also a nice place to just hang out. A sign on the board says, "This is an alcohol- and drug-free zone." Trust and respect are essential values for a community. Responsibility creates freedom, and respect supports that.

I learned a lot from the teardown of the skate park in my hometown. Of course, it's important to keep spaces safe for young children and older people, but it’s also essential to preserve free spaces for youth.

I feel bad for the designer of the old skate park. Some people tried to erase subculture, saying skateboarding is dangerous, noisy, and makes young people violent... I totally disagree. There were no homes nearby you could already hear the constant noise of the trains. That was the excuse used to remove the skate park and basketball court. But there were so many happy sounds and good energy in that space.

Soon after, they built huge apartment complexes and hospital buildings in the same area. Not many people even remember that there used to be a skate park next to the station...

I hope this skate park stays well-maintained and continues to bring smiles to young people for a long time. There’s even a cool skateboard shop nearby. It’s fun to visit after checking out the park!

スケボーパーク

私はスケボーはしませんが、誰かがスケボーをしているのを眺めたり、ビデオや映画を観るのは好きです。スケートボードがテーマのロード・オブ・ドッグタウンは好きな映画です。スケボーシーンがふんだんに出てくるキッズも好きです。

スケボーができたらいいなと思ったこともありますが、私はボード関係のスポーツが苦手です。スキー、スケート、ローラーブレードやローラースケートは得意ですが、スノーボードやスケートボードはどういうわけか苦手なのです。おそらく、両足がボードにくっついているのが心地悪いのではないかと思います。スケボーはスノボーのように板に足を固定するわけではないのでマシなのではないかと思いますが。

スケートボード用の公園が近くの町にできたというのは知っていたのですが、実際に見に行ったことはありませんでした。主人はスケボーが好きなのですが訪れるのは初めてでした。

午前中に訪れたので、パーク内には誰もいませんでした。空っぽのスケートボード場を見るのは楽しいですが、ここにたくさんのボーダーたちが集まっているのを見るのもいいなと思います。

ここはエントランスのあたりです。地面はとても滑らかでよくできていると思います。

これはボードホルダーです。便利そうですね。すでにステッカーでカスタムされています。

わあ、ここのエリアはいいですね。私の故郷の街にもスケボーパークがあったのですが、騒音と安全問題を理由に撤去されてしまいました。このパークはそういった問題なく自由に練習できそうです。

この広いスペースもいい感じですね。小さなトリックが至る所に散りばめられています。

これはいちばん初めの写真のボールのはじの部分です。ボールの周りにも練習スペースがあります。

わあ、これはいい練習スポットですね。すでに表面にはたくさんの傷ができています。ビデオ撮影をするには最適の場所ではないかと思います。

このコブのような石たちも面白そうですね。

こんなに平面に見える箇所でも、実際にすると、チャレンジだと思います。この公園はバイクにもいいと思います。入り口の看板にはスケートボード、ローラーブレード、スクーター、スポーツ用車椅子などを使用できると記載があります。

素晴らしいです！スポーツ用車椅子はいいですね。滑らかで平らな地面はどんなウィールとも相性が抜群だと思います。

これはボールの反対側からの眺めです。応援する観客席もあります。ヘルメットがボールの中に落ちています。よくできたボールですね。

このスケボーパークを見ていると、ますます故郷のことを思い出させてくれます。そのパークは駅に隣接しスケボー用の公園と３オン３用のバスケットボールゴールがあって、ゲートボール場と大きな公園などの公共の場内にありました。

若者がいつも集っていて、私はその様子を眺めながら横を通るのが好きでした。若い頃は私もその公園で遊んだことがあります。ところが、苦情を言う人が現れたのです。

そこはストリートバスケ、スケボーなどに最適の場所でした。サブカルチャー的なものをよく思わない人がいるのも事実で、ゲートボール場以外はすべて撤去されてしまいました。誰もいないがらんとしたその場所を見るのは物悲しいものでした。

地域社会にはこういったスケボーパーク的なものが必要だと思います。

私は故郷の街の撤去されたスケボーパークから何かを学んだ気がしています。もちろん、小さな子供たちやご老人の安全を保つのはとても大事なことだと思いますが、若者の場所を保っておくことも大切なことだと思います。

素敵なスケボー場をデザインした方が気の毒です。スケボーは危険で、騒音を生み出し、若者を危険な道へと導く…そんなふうに決めつけてサブカル的なものを消し去ろうとする人がいますが、私は反対です。その周辺には住宅がなく、常に電車の音が聞こえてくる場所に設置されていました。おそらくスケボー場とバスケのゴールを撤去するための理由づけにされたのだと思います。その空間にはとても楽しい音といい雰囲気が漂っていました。

その後、その辺りには大きなアパートと病院が建てられました。かつてそこにスケボーパークがあったことを知っている人は、もう少ないのではないかと思います…。

このスケボーパークは程よく手入れされ、長く地域に根付いてほしいと思います。近くにはかっこいいスケボーショップがあります。ここで練習した後にそのお店によるのも一つの楽しみなのではないでしょうか。
