Playing, Running, and Eating Well

The rich, fresh green scent from the fields and the sweet smell of the dried hay blend together in the mountain air here. The view of the valley always tells me something about the changing seasons.

As you can see, the brown areas have already been cut and prepared as hay for the animals. The green areas are filled with corn, vegetables, grapevines, and apple trees. I sometimes hear bird bangers going off in the distance. Most of the time, the silence carries only a few gentle sounds, so it's peaceful rather than noisy. Depending on the season, I hear coyotes, eagles, crows, ravens, Canada geese, and many small birds. Every now and then, I also hear church bells.

The hay field near my house is one of our favourite places to walk with my dog. Butterflies fly all around here. When I was little, I often played in the fields near my home with my younger brother.

Together, we made imaginary rooms in the big field, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, a bathroom, and even a hobby room. Making the rooms was simple. We just stepped down into the tall grass to mark out each room. After we had finished making all the rooms we wanted, we each went into our own room.

We lay down in our grassy rooms, but we called to each other almost immediately because we felt a little lonely in such big spaces. To be honest, we didn't have our own bedrooms when we were little. We always shared our space together. Maybe that's why it felt strange to suddenly have our own big grass rooms, even though they only existed in our imagination. I miss him very much.

Here is my lovely dog carrying his new favourite Frisbee in his mouth on the way to the field. It actually glows in the dark! He really wanted to carry it all by himself.

Here we are! He's ready to play fetch. He loves playing with the Frisbee, but he doesn't like giving it back to us. He loves teasing us.

After playing for a while, he looked so satisfied. He ran so much! Sometimes it's even better exercise than going for a long walk.

This view is from the other side of the field, where you can see the end of the blue mountain and its cliff. I often write about this beautiful cliff. Whenever I look at it, it somehow gives me an answer. This time, I was thinking deeply about something when a gentle breeze suddenly touched my face. I thought, "This is it." I felt the presence of my previous dog in the wind. It was as if she had sent me a kind message through the breeze.

I made some homemade oat toppings for my dog's daily meals. I usually prepare frozen food cubes made from boiled vegetables and fish. Then I mix them with oatmeal and put the mixture on top of his dog food. His overall health and his skin condition have improved so much since we started feeding him this way. He has also lost weight in a very healthy way.

The results of his wart sample came back the other day. It was negative! I was so relieved to hear that. Some of the warts even disappeared completely after the needle biopsy. The note from the vet that said, "No criteria of malignancy found in this sample," gave me tremendous peace of mind.

遊んで、走って、よく食べる

ここの山の空気には、畑の青々とした草の濃〜い爽やかな香りと、乾いた干し草の甘い香りが混ざり合った匂いがしてきます。谷の景色は、季節の移り変わりをいつも教えてくれます。

写真でご覧のとおり、茶色く見える部分はすでに刈り取られ、家畜のための干し草として準備されている様子です。緑色の部分には、トウモロコシや野菜、ブドウ畑、リンゴの木が広がっています。遠くから鳥よけの爆音器の音が聞こえてくることもあります。でも、基本的には、静けさの中に自然の音だけが響いていて、うるさいと感じることはありません。季節によっては、コヨーテやワシ、カラス、ワタリガラス、カナダガン、小さな野鳥たちの声が聞こえてきます。ときどき教会の鐘の音が聞こえてくることもあります。

家の近くの牧草地は、犬と散歩するお気に入りの場所の一つです。ここではたくさんの蝶々が飛び回っています。子どもの頃、弟と一緒によく近所の草原で遊びました。

私たちは広い草原の中に、リビングやキッチン、ダイニングルーム、お風呂、そして趣味の部屋まで、想像の部屋を一緒に作って遊びました。部屋を作るのはとても簡単です。部屋にしたい場所の背の高い草を足で踏み倒すだけです。

作りたい部屋を全部作り終えると、それぞれ自分の草の部屋へ行きました。そしてその草の部屋に寝転びました。でも、すぐにお互いを呼び合ってしまいます。広い草の部屋の中に一人でいると、なんだか寂しくなってしまうのです。実は、私たちは子どもの頃、それぞれの個室を持っていませんでした。いつも同じ空間で一緒に過ごしていました。だから、想像の世界とはいえ、急に一人ずつ大きな部屋を持ったことが、なんだか不思議な気持ちだったのだと思います。弟がとても恋しいです。

さあ、こちらは大好きなフリスビーをくわえて牧草地へ向かう、かわいい愛犬です。このフリスビーは暗くなると光ります。自分で運びたかったようで、ずっとこうしてくわえて歩いていました。

到着です！フリスビーで遊ぶ準備は万端のようです。フリスビーで遊ぶのは大好きなのですが、投げたフリスビーを返してくれないことも多いです。私たちをからかうのが楽しいらしいです。

しばらく遊んだ後は、とても満足そうな顔をしていました。たくさん走ったので、ときには長い距離を歩くよりも良い運動になることもあります。

こちらは牧草地の反対側から見た景色です。青い山並みの端には崖が見えます。この美しい崖について何度かブログで書いています。この崖を眺めるたびに、なぜか自分の中の答えを教えてくれるような気がするのです。この日も、あることを深く考えていると、突然やさしい風が私の頬をなでました。「ああ、これだ。」そんなふうに思いました。風の中に、以前一緒に暮らしていた犬の存在を感じたのです。まるで、風に乗せて優しいメッセージを届けてくれたような気がしました。

私は愛犬の毎日のドッグフードに、手作りのオートミール入りトッピングを作っています。茹でた野菜や魚を小分けにして冷凍したキューブを用意し、それをオートミールと混ぜてドッグフードの上にのせています。この食事に変えてから、体調も皮膚の状態も本当に良くなりました。そして、とても健康的に体重も減りました。

先日、イボの細胞検査の結果が返ってきました。結果は陰性でした！その知らせを聞いて、本当に安心しました。細い針で検査をしたあと、そのまま完全に消えてしまったイボもいくつかあります。獣医さんからの「この検体には悪性を示す所見は認められませんでした」というコメントを読んで、本当に心からほっとしました。
