“Lupinus (Lupin)’s Story”

I have Lupin plants in my garden now. Actually, it took a few years to have Lupinus (Lupin) flowers. Lupinus is called Noborifuji (昇藤ノボリフジ) in Japanese.

Why it took a few years to finally have flowers in my garden? I got seeds from the road a few years ago after the city truck cut Lupinus plants from the field, I noticed that there were dried seeds everywhere on the road. I felt I could plant these seeds in my garden because I don't have them even though Lupinus is everywhere in this area. Lupinus reminds me of my hometown. There are many Lupinus flowers in the mountains. They are usually beautiful purple or pink. Sometimes white flowers.

When I planted the seeds, they looked like they didn't work. So, I planted seeds in the greenhouse in the shed. After that, I transplanted them to the backyard. However, they didn’t make flowers that year. I also planted on the driveway and the other spot using Seed balls, also known as earth balls or nendo dango (Japanese: 粘土団子) by Japanese natural farming pioneer Masanobu Fukuoka. It also looked like it didn't work.

Finally, the transplanted one worked! They have beautiful purple flowers from last year. This year, I noticed that the seed balls worked! There is a purple Lupinus in the bush. Also, I noticed the driveway ones also started plants. Yay! They took a few years to start.

The transplanted ones, I noticed that they don’t look well this year strangely. I totally forgot to put some big stones around the plants. After they grew well, they didn't have enough space. That's why they looked not well. After taking away all of the stones, they look very free and beautiful again.

Planting and growing needs a lot of patience. Additionally, you've got to believe them without losing hope. I hope we will have more flowers next year!

Look at the water drop in the middle of the leaf. It looks like a jewel. Native American drunk leaf tea for nausea or more body conditions I heard. Seeds are poisonous. Some Lupines are toxic.

After moving the stones away, they look free. I am sorry about that!

「ルピーン（ノボリフジ）の話

庭にはルピーンがはえています。このルピーンを育てるには数年かかりました。ルピーンはノボリフジともいいますね。

なぜ、育てるのに数年もかかったのでしょうか？話は数年前にさかのぼって、市のトラックが野原の草を刈り取ったあとに、道路にたくさんの乾いたルピーンの種がそこら中に落ちていました。ルピーンはそこら中に生えているのに、家の庭にはないので、この種を植えたら生えてくるかもしれないと考えたのです。ルピーンを見ると故郷を思い出します。山にはたくさんルピーンがはえています。だいたいとてもきれいな紫、ピンク色をした花が咲きます。時々白の花もあります。

種を植えると、うまくいかない様子でした。そこで、物置のグリーンハウスで種を植えました。芽が出たので、裏庭に植え替えました。その年は花をつけることはありませんでした。私道部分にも種を植えました。それから福岡正信氏の粘土団子を使って種を蒔きました。それもうまくいかなかった様に見えました。

やっと、植え替えたものがうまくいきました！去年とてもきれいな紫色の花をつけたのです。今年は、なんと粘土団子にも結果がでました！紫色のきれいな花をさかせました。そして、私道部分にも葉っぱをみつけました。やったー！数年かかりました。

植え替えしたものは、今年はなぜか元気がない様子でした。石で囲っていたことをすっかり忘れていたのです。大きくなってから、スペースが狭かったようです。だから元気がなかったのですね。石を全てよけると、また元気になりました。

種を植えて植物を育てるのはとても忍耐が必要ですね。それに加えて、希望を忘れないように信じることも大事だと思います。来年はもっと花が咲きますように！

葉っぱの真ん中の水滴を見てください！ジュエリーみたいですね。ネーテイブアメリカンは吐き気などを癒すのに葉っぱのお茶を飲んだそうです。種には毒があり、ルピンの中には毒性のあるものがあるそうです。
