Hints of Spring

Spring has arrived with allergies! Today is Saint Patrick's Day. When I went shopping yesterday, I saw the leftover decorations and remnants of celebrations around town. I guess people celebrated the spring event on Saturday or Sunday.

I saw a bunch of beer cans, cups, and food plates scattered in the streets. People must have enjoyed BBQ and beer. When I used to live in town, I could constantly hear fireworks and party sounds whenever there was an event. Even in my apartment building, my neighbors were always throwing big parties.

Since moving to the mountains, I still hear fireworks and party sounds when the wind carries them, but I haven't experienced them as intensely as I did in town.

Yesterday and today, I noticed some hints of spring and took a few interesting photos.

The green stands out vividly against the fallen leaves. This fake green flower must be from a Saint Patrick’s Day event. There were a few of them, reminding me of the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. It felt as if Hansel and Gretel had left these behind like breadcrumbs to mark their path.

I didn’t follow these green flowers, but they looked as though someone had dropped them on the street on their way home or elsewhere.

This is a typical spring atmosphere around here, still pretty brown. However, if you look closely, you’ll see small hints of spring. Patches of fresh green appear in nature. The clouds look different from winter, and even the blue sky has changed. The wind feels milder than a few months ago. The scent of spring drifts in from the ocean, despite the frozen stream at the bottom of this photo.

Fresh pussy willows are starting to sprout everywhere in the fields. They look so fluffy and pretty! Unfortunately, this also means allergy season has begun for both me and my dog. This time of year is a bit challenging for us.

There is thick ice in the ditch beneath the ground. I guess this is winter’s last lingering energy. The leaves on the ice almost look like eyes. To me, the right side of the ice resembles a pretty dolphin.

Yes, litter is everywhere, emerging as the snow melts. I did some garbage picking last week before collection day, but more trash has appeared since then.

This glove looks like a specialist's glove. If I lost one of these, I’d be sad—it looks like a high-quality glove.

It reminds me of the Ukrainian folk story ’The Magic Glove.’ The art created by Evgenii Mikhailovich Rachev. When my dog tried to sniff it, I wondered for a moment if someone might be inside, just like in the story. It also made me think about the people of Ukraine...

This is the typical red mud of this area. It reminds me of Baskin-Robbins' Rocky Road ice cream. Hmm… I have a habit of imagining food when I see things in nature. Now I can't stop thinking about ice cream.

Rhododendrons are incredibly resilient. Some buds have already appeared, and I can’t wait for their beautiful white flowers to bloom.

There are small buds on the cherry tree. This tree produced delicious cherries for a few years but stopped two years ago. After some careful trimming, it has been slowly recovering. Hopefully, this year, I’ll be able to pick lots of cherries again.

春の兆し

春がアレルギーとともにやってきました！今日は聖パトリックの日です。昨日買い物に出かけたとき、お祭りの名残を感じられるものがいろいろとありました。土曜か日曜日に春のイベントがあったのでしょう。

大量のビールの空き缶や、コップ、お皿などが道にありました。おそらくバーベキューやビールを楽しんだのでしょう。以前、町に住んでいた時は、行事があるごとに花火やパーティーの様子が聞こえてきました。アパートのお隣さんは常にパーティーをして大騒ぎしていました。

山の中に住むようになってからは、遠くに花火が見えますし、風向きによってはパーティーの音が聞こえてくることがあります。しかし、町中で体感するお祭りの雰囲気とは違います。

昨日と今日は、春の兆しを感じましたので写真に収めました。

枯れ葉の間から緑色が目立ちます。このフェイクの緑の花は聖パトリックのお祭り用の飾りだと思います。グリム童話のヘンゼルとグレーテルのお話に出てくるようなパンくずのように、この緑の花が点々と道に落ちていました。

緑の花を辿りはしませんでしたが、そのまま辿っていくと落とし主の誰かやどこかの場所にたどり着くのでしょうか。

これはこの辺りに春がやってくるとよく見かける情景です。まだ茶色だらけなのですが、よく目を凝らして見てみると春の兆しに気がつきます。自然の中には小さな新緑の部分があります。雲は雪のそれとは違いますし、青空も冬のものではありません。風も数ヶ月前とはぜんぜん違います。写真の下の方にはまだ凍りついた小川が見えるのですが、春の海風の香りがしてきます。

新鮮なネコヤナギの蕾が野原のそこら中に見えます。ふわふわでかわいらしいです。残念ながら、私と犬のアレルギーももれなくやってきました。この時期は嬉しい反面、難しくもあります。

道路の溝にはまだ分厚い氷が残っています。最後の名残り氷でしょうか。氷の上にくっついている落ち葉は目のように見えてきます。右側の目はイルカに見えるのは私だけでしょうか。

はい、やはり雪がとけると、こうしてゴミが出てきます。先週のゴミの回収日に合わせてゴミ拾いを終えたばかりなのですが、またゴミがたくさん現れました。

これは特別な手袋に見えます。ちょっと高めのいい手袋を片方だけなくしてしまったら、残念ですよね。

この手袋を見ていると、エウゲーニー・M・ラチョフが挿絵を描いたウクライナ民話「てぶくろ」という絵本を思い出します。ちょうど、私の犬がこの落ちていた手袋の匂いとクンクンと嗅いだとき、中には誰かが住んでいるのではないか？と思ってしまいました。同時にウクライナの人たちことも思い出して、しんみりしました…。

この辺りではこういった赤土をよく見かけます。３１アイスクリームのロッキーロード味を思い出してしまいました。うーん…、私は自然を食べ物に例える癖があります。そして、一度連想すると、アイスクリームが頭から離れません。

ハクサンシャクナゲの花はとても強いです。すでにいくつか芽がついています。きれいな白い花が咲くのが待ち遠しいです。

さくらんぼの木にも小さな芽が生えています。このさくらんぼの木は毎年おいしいさくらんぼの実をつけていたのですが、２年前から実が少なくなってしまいました。剪定をしてから、少しずつ回復してきました。今年はまたたくさん実をつけて欲しいです。
