Hiking Banned Due to Dry Conditions😢

Mountain fires are happening in many places in Canada. I saw a very creepy-looking sun in the sky, like the one in this photo. This was the late afternoon sun from a few days ago. Fortunately, we don’t have any forest fire issues in my area, but the weather is very dry.

My yard has a variety of weeds, not just one type of lawn grass. However, some spots are extremely dry. When I walk on the grass, it makes a crunchy sound.

The provincial government has banned entry to all wooded areas starting August 5th. This includes hiking, camping, and trail use. The ban applies to both Crown and private lands until October 15th, or until further notice. Wow… I won’t be able to walk my dog in the forest for a while, unfortunately.

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, the lake was very low and dry, and it made us feel really bad. We even saw someone’s leftover garbage, including a cigarette butt, on the ground. It was very dangerous, so we picked it up. I read about a camping trend called “fly camping.” I can’t believe there’s actually a name for that, bringing cheap materials and leaving everything behind, including huge piles of garbage. To me, that’s not a style. It’s just a mess and incredibly disrespectful.

I feel sad that people and pets can’t go into the forest for a while, but I understand that we need to protect nature. If we break the ban, the fines can go up to $25,000! I keep finding cigarette butts in front of our property almost every day. Some of them look like they were just tossed without being properly put out. I really hope nothing dangerous happens.

The flowers and vegetables in the garden are trying to survive this dry weather. But we also need to save water, which is now a provincial requirement. I have to conserve water for emergencies. Luckily, we have well water and drink spring water, but we still have to be careful with how much wastewater we produce.

You can see the dried leaves under the flowers in this photo. I don’t have a typical lawn in my yard, but my neighbors who have a single-species lawn are seeing their grass turn completely brown.

We haven’t been cutting the weeds for a few weeks to give the garden a chance to grow. Some areas are slowly recovering. I felt a bit sluggish this morning, but I’m glad we have different types of plants on our property. Most of our trees, weeds, wild plants, and flowers are doing okay so far. The vegetable garden also looks fine for now, but I want to avoid damaging it until we get some rain. Stay cool, everyone!

乾燥した天候のためハイキング禁止

カナダの至るところで山火事現象が起こっているようです。この写真のように奇妙な太陽を見かけます。これは数日前の午後遅くに撮った写真です。幸い、この地域は山火事被害は起きていませんが、かなり乾燥状態の気候が続いています。

私の庭はいろいろな種類の雑草が生えているので、ひとつのタイプの芝生がある家の様子とは少し違います。ところが、やはりところどころ乾燥でダメージを受けています。歩くと枯れ葉のくしゃくしゃという音がします。

州の政府が、８月５日からすべての森に入ることを禁じました。ハイキング、キャンプ、トレールなどの使用を一切禁止されてしまいました。この禁止措置は１０月１５日まで、または何らかの通知が追って出るまでは、王室所有地や私有地の両方に適応されるそうです。わぁ…しばらくの間、森へは犬の散歩に行けなくなってしまいました。

残念ですが、数日前に湖へと散歩に出かけたとき、かなり水位が低く乾燥の影響が出ていることに気付いたと投稿したばかりです。誰かが残していったゴミと火がついたままのタバコの吸い殻を見かけました。タバコは消して処理しました。こういったキャンプスタイルのことを「フライキャンピング」と呼ぶ人たちがいるそうです。安い道具を持ち寄って、ゴミなどをすべてそのまま放置してくるらしいです。それって…、スタイルというか、ただ散らかしているだけの酷いマナーであるというだけのことだと思うのですが。

もちろん、森林浴を楽しんだり、ペットなどと散歩をできないというのは残念ですが、そういった危険な行為から自然を守るという意味では、ルールに従う必要があるのだと思います。もし、違反した場合は、罰金なんと約２７５万円らしいです！家の敷地の前でもタバコの吸い殻をちょくちょく見かけます。中には火を消さずにそのままポーンと投げていったものも混ざっています。危険なことが何も起きないことを願うばかりです。

畑の花々と野菜はこの乾燥を何とか乗り越えている様子です。しかし、州政府の決まりの中には水の無駄遣いもセーブしなくてはならないとあります。非常用に水をとっておかなければなりません。幸い、家は井戸の水を使用しており、飲み水には湧き水も使用していますが、できるだけ水の無駄遣いをしないように心がけています。

この写真の花の下に見える草もかなり乾燥しているのがわかると思います。家の庭はよくある一種類の草が生えている緑の芝生とは違って、いろいろな雑草が生えています。近所のお宅の芝生の庭は乾燥で茶色に変色しています。

家の庭は数週間草を刈らずに伸ばして様子を見ています。ところどころ復活してきました。今朝は、その復活している部分が朝露で濡れているのを見かけました。敷地内のほとんどの木々と雑草、野花は今のところ大丈夫そうです。畑の野菜と花たちも今のところは乾燥の被害が少なめで頑張ってくれています。このまま雨が降るまで何とか待ちたいものです。みなさんも、乾燥には気をつけてください！
