Happy Horse Year 2026

Happy New Year! This year is a Horse year in the zodiac. It is also a special Horse year called Hinoe-uma (丙午／ひのえうま), which means the Fire Horse. Hinoe-uma is one of the traditional combinations of the Ten Heavenly Stems and the Twelve Earthly Branches, which occur in a 60-year cycle. It was once considered “unlucky” due to an unfounded superstition, and the year 1966, a Hinoe-uma year, is well known for a significant decline in the number of births.

Hinoe-uma is the 43rd combination in the 60-year cycle, and the year 2026 will be a Hinoe-uma year. Hinoe (丙) represents fire that spreads and burns intensely like flames, while uma (午) signifies the fire of midsummer. Because it combines two elements of fire, this zodiac sign has traditionally been associated with great energy, intensity, and passion.

In the past, it was sometimes regarded as an unlucky year, with beliefs such as “its power is too strong to control” or “fires occur more frequently in Hinoe-uma years.”

Hmm… I wasn’t sure about Hinoe-uma information. However, I do like the Horse year. I took this photo a few years ago, and I never imagined that I would share it like this for the Horse year. When I saw these horses from the car window, I was at a loss for words because they were so beautiful. I don’t go to this area often, but I knew there were horses there. I love seeing horses in my area. They make me feel so calm. They are gentle, peaceful, and unique.

I like all of them in the photo, but I especially like the white one. They look so peaceful in nature. They are farm horses, but there are also wild horses on Sable Island nearby. I really want to see them, but I’m afraid of going to the island because I don’t want to damage nature. I wonder whether visitors are allowed to go there or not.

When I watched the official park video, it was simply beautiful. The moon-shaped island looked so quiet and peaceful. There are seals, wild horses, and birds. I feel that I shouldn’t disturb their lives.

Anyway, my new year has started quietly. I had a lovely conversation with my mother over the phone last night. I wish I could meet her someday soon. I hope peace will come to the world very soon this year.

ハッピー午年

あけましておめでとうございます。今年の干支は午年ですね。そして今年は、丙午（ひのえうま）という特別な午年だそうです。丙午は「火の馬」を意味し、十干と十二支を組み合わせた６０年周期のひとつなのだとか。かつては根拠のない迷信から不吉とされ、１９９６年の丙午の年には出生数が大きく減少したのだそうです。

丙午は６０ある干支の４３番目にあたり、今年がその年にあたるのだそうです。丙は、炎のように勢いよく燃え広がる火を表し、午は真夏の火を意味するのだとか。火の要素が重なることから、強いエネルギーや激しさ、情熱を象徴すると考えられてきたらしいです。一方で、かつては力が強すぎて制御できないとか、丙午の年は火災が多いといった考えから、不吉な年とされた時代もありました。

うーん、正直なところ、丙午についてはあまり詳しくないので不確かなことが多いですが、私は午年そのものはとても好きです。この写真は数年前に撮ったもので、まさか午年のためにこうして紹介することになるとは思っていませんでした。車の窓からこの馬たちを見たとき、あまりの美しさに言葉を失いました。

この辺りにはあまり頻繁には行かないのですが、馬がいることは知っていました。近所の馬を見るのが好きで、見ているととても心が落ち着きます。穏やかで、静かで、それぞれに個性があります。

写真の中の馬たちはみんな好きですが、特に白い馬が気に入っています。自然の中で、とても平和そうに見えます。彼らは農場の馬ですが、地図上でわりと近いところに、セーブル島という場所があり、そこには野生の馬たちが暮らしています。かなり見てみたい気持ちはありますが、自然を傷つけたくないという思いもあり、島を訪れるという行為自体、少し不安があります。訪問が可能なのかどうかも気になるところです。

公式のパークビデオを見たとき、その美しさに心を奪われました。三日月のような形をした島は、とても静かで穏やかに見えました。そこにはアザラシや野生の馬、鳥たちが暮らしています。彼らの生活を邪魔してはいけない、と感じました。

そんなこんなで、私の新しい一年は静かに始まりました。昨夜は母と電話でゆっくり話すことができました。いつか近いうちに実際に会えたらいいなと思います。そして今年こそ、世界に少しでも早く平和が訪れることを願っています。
