Great Swimmer, The Muskrat

I saw a muskrat the other day while walking near the ocean with my husband and dog. It was the second time I'd seen one. It was very pretty and a good swimmer.

Actually, I didn't notice it, my husband is very good at spotting animals. He immediately notices them, but I usually can't spot them as quickly as he does. He has an animal sensor.

The last time I saw a muskrat, I was filling my water jug at a spring spot in winter. It swam in the creek very quickly, emerging from the tunnel under the road. I was amazed that it didn't seem to mind the cold water. It was covered with nice fur.

This time, it was swimming in the river next to the hiking trail near the ocean in spring. I guess the water is still cold. I tried to chase it, but it was very quick. I ran just a little bit to try to reach it. What a great swimmer it was! It didn't make any noise and was very smooth. As soon as I reached it, it glanced at me for a second, and then it dived into the river. Probably, it went to its house or crossed to the other side of the river. I wonder if it can swim in the ocean or not. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching it.

泳ぎ上手なマスクラット

海の近くで主人と犬と一緒に散歩していた時にマスクラットを見かけました。マスクラットはジャコウネズミやニオイネズミとも言うようです。マスクラットを見たのはこれで２回目です。とてもかわいくて泳ぎが上手です。

実は、私は気づいていなかったのですが、動物に気づくのが得意な主人が先に気づいて教えてくれました。私は主人のように素早く動物に気づくことができません。主人には動物センサーがあるようです。

前回マスクラットを見たのは、寒い冬の日に湧き水を汲んでいたときでした。小川を素早く泳ぎ道路の下のトンネルから出てきました。寒い水の中で泳ぐことができるのはすごいことだと思いました。あったかい毛皮に覆われているので大丈夫なのでしょうか。

今春は海の横のハイキングトレールを泳いでいた時、川の中を泳いでいるマスクラットを見かけました。水温はまだ冷たいと思います。追いかけようと思いましたが、とても早かったので小走りで追いかけました。泳ぎがとても上手です！音をまったくたてずにスムーズに泳いでいました。私が追いついた途端、コチラをチラッと見るとすぐに潜ってしまいました。おそらくすみかに帰ったか、または川の反対側に行ったのではないかと思います。マスクラットが海で泳ぐことができるのかどうかは謎です。とても楽しく見物しました。
