Final Snowfall? 最後の降雪？ [English and Japanese]
Final Snowfall?
As St. Patrick's Day and Easter approach, most people around the world expect March to usher in a gentle springtime. However, in my area, we still have snowfall, and I hope that this recent snow is the final one of the season. It's ironic, considering I originated from a snowy region where March typically sees snowfall as well. Sometimes I wonder why I relocated from one cold place to another...
Spring snowfall makes us feel pretty cold. It doesn't stay on the ground for long because of the sun's swift melting. Despite this, I find myself still wearing thick socks and extra layers of warmth, relying on a wood stove for cozy nights. Of course, the heat pump is always running too. I want to shed my thick winter jacket with each passing day.
The other day, I eagerly set out for a walk with my dog, my thoughts drifting to my grandmother who is living in an old age home in Japan. With less snow on the ground, I wore my spring-ish boots.
Wham!
I caught a glimpse of my dog's worried expression as I struggled to understand what had happened. Yes, I had fallen on the steps. Thankfully, my new winter coat, with its thick faux feather lining, softened the impact on my back.
As I inspected the stairs, I noticed a thin layer of ice covering them. Spring ice is very dangerous. Despite wearing spring boots, I was fortunate to have my winter coat on. Perhaps I should've worn winter boots...
Anyway, I can't wait for warm spring breezes! Snow, snow, go away!

最後の降雪？
セントパトリックデーやイースターがもうすぐです。３月は世界中のほとんどの地域ではおだやかな春が近づいているのではないかと思います。ところが、私の住む地域ではまだ雪が降っています。これが最後の雪であることを願ってやみません。私の故郷も３月は当たり前のように雪が積もっています。皮肉なことに、私は寒いところから寒いところへと移住してきました。なぜ…。
春に降る雪はけっこう寒いです。太陽がすぐに溶かしてしまうのでめったに積りません。まだ分厚い靴下をはいて暖かい洋服を着ていますし、夜には薪ストーブを使っています。もちろん、エアコンの温風もフル活用です。もうそろそろ分厚い冬のコートを脱ぎたいです。
先日、老人ホームにいる祖母のことを考えながら犬の散歩に行くために家を出ました。地面には雪が少ないので春のブーツをはいていました。
ドスーン！
私の犬が心配そうに上から覗き込んでいました。しばらく何が起こったのかを把握するのに時間がかかりました。はい、そうです。階段で転びました。ありがたいことに今年購入したばかりのフェイクの羽毛がびっしりつまった分厚い冬のコートをきていたので、それがクッションとなって腰を守ってくれました。
階段を調査してみると、薄い氷で覆われていました。春の氷は危ないです。春のブーツをはいていたとはいえ、冬のコートを着ていてよかったです。靴も冬物をはいておけばよかったのですが…。
いずれにせよ、もうそろそろ春の風を感じたいです。雪、雪、あっちへいけ！
