Easter Holiday Memories

Easter Sunday is approaching on the 31st after St. Patrick's Day, and it brings back memories of past Easters. In Japan, Easter was primarily a work-related affair for me, involving egg hunts, games, and storytelling throughout the Easter Sunday week. However, when I lived abroad, I seemed to have forgotten about the Easter holiday.

Since moving to Canada, some of those old Easter memories have come back to me, but I never recall anything about local business services. On our very first Easter Sunday here, we overlooked business hours and ended up forgetting to buy enough food for the day. Saturday was consumed with work, leaving us unprepared for Sunday dinner.

"Damn!"

Thankfully, we were dog-sitting for relatives and managed to scrounge up some food from their fridge while taking care of their pet. Without that, we might have gone hungry. Since then, we've made it a point never to forget to stock up on food before Easter Sunday.

I've noticed Easter chocolates and candies lining the shelves of local stores almost all the time. Easter bunny chocolates look particularly delicious, and the stuffed animals are adorable too. I enjoy spotting bunny footprints in the snow, but I'd love to see them hopping around my spring garden as well. Happy Easter! 🐇

"Carnaby" is a pretty famous chocolate brand. However, this bunny does not look so pretty. I prefer the bunny chocolates in the first photo because they look classic.

Some Easter baskets look funny. I like the fluffy brown bunny, which looks like a dog or something. The duckling basket and the rainbow basket also look cute.

There are more toys and chocolate on the shelf. The blue puppets look so pretty. Blue Bunny sounds very interesting. I understand that rabbits symbolize fertility during Easter due to their reproductive abundance, but I don't know why they're blue... My husband said it could be because Kinder's bunny is blue. Hmm. I like the blue bunny though!

There is a store currently filled with chocolate. It's so difficult for me to ignore the chocolate section.

イースター休暇の思い出

セントパトリックデーの後、３１日の日曜日はイースターのです。日本では、イースターは仕事関連の行事でしかなく、イースターエッグハンティングやイースターにちなんだゲームをしたり、イースターの読み聞かせなどをしていました。その他の国に住んでいた頃のイースター休暇については、すっかり忘れていました。

カナダに移住してからは、日本でのイースターのことを思い出しはしても、地元の店舗の営業情報などについては思い出しもしませんでした。移住してきていちばん初めのイースターの日曜日にすべてのビジネスが休業してしまうこともすっかり忘れていました。前日は仕事で忙しくて日曜日の食事のことなど考える暇もありませんでした。

「やばい！」

ありがたいことに親戚の犬の世話をしていましたので、断って冷蔵庫の中にある食べ物を借りることにしました。もしペットシッターをしていなければ腹ペコ状態で一晩過ごす羽目になるところでした。それからはイースター前には忘れずに買い物をするようにしています。

このところ、近所のお店の棚にはイースターチョコレートが陳列されているのを常に見かけます。イースターバニーのチョコレートは特に美味しそうですし、かわいらしい動物のぬいぐるみもあります。私は雪の上のウサギの足跡を見かけるのが楽しみですが、春先の庭にもウサギが遊びにきてくれるといいなと思います。ハッピーイースター！🐇

おもしろい見た目のイースターバスケットもあります。個人的には一見犬のように見える茶色いバニーがかわいいと思います。アヒルや虹色のバスケットもなかなかかわいいですね。

この棚にもおもちゃやチョコレートがたくさん陳列されています。青いパペットがすごくかわいいです。ウサギが青いのはおもしろいですね。ウサギは豊かさをうむ象徴でありイースターのシンボルであることは知っていましたが、青いウサギというのはなぜかはわかりません…。主人が言うには単純にKinderのマスコットのウサギが青いからなのではないかと言っていました。ふーむ、青いウサギはかわいいですね！

最近のお店はチョコレートでいっぱいです。私にとってはこのセクションを無視して通り過ぎるのは難し過ぎます。
