December Spirit

I’ve noticed Christmas decorations and winter energy all around my area already. It feels like the preparations start earlier and earlier every year. I used to feel the Christmas spirit when I was young, because Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day were very traditional and happy occasions for children. But at some point, I began to feel a bit melancholic during the winter season, especially because of the cold.

Even so, I still like seeing Christmas illuminations when nobody is around. I don't enjoy the busy, noisy atmosphere, but the other day I found myself at the park in town when it was completely empty. When I noticed the Christmas lights, I walked under the bright gate and looked at the displays. The atmosphere by the ocean was very calm, and the lights were gently shining.

I hope everyone has enough food, shelter, and energy. I often imagine what it would be like if we could share some of the town budget with people and children who need support.

I also saw poinsettia plants at the farmer’s store the other day: blue, purple, white, and red ones. I had never seen purple poinsettias before. I wished I could send one to my mother for my father. He used to bring her a red poinsettia at Christmas after work. Poinsettias are more delicate than they look. They need just the right temperature, not too cold and not too hot.

When we lived in our old house, my mother kept the poinsettia in the cold entrance area. But her current house isn’t as cold, so the temperature becomes too warm for the plant.

Which colour is the prettiest? It’s hard to decide. The red and white ones feel very traditional, the blue one looks cool, and the purple one feels both funky and elegant. If I get the chance, I think I’d like to try the purple one.

White: Peace, purity, calm
Blue: Serenity, depth, reflection
Purple: Elegance, mystery, creativity

Yes! I think the purple one matches my feelings for this season for sure.
Purple holds the quiet depth of winter, like a soft light glowing in the cold, carrying both memory and hope at the same time.

１２月のスピリット

このあたりでは、もうすでにクリスマスの飾りつけや冬の雰囲気をあちこちで見かけるようになりました。年々、準備がどんどん早くなっているように感じます。子どもの頃はクリスマスや大晦日、お正月がとても伝統的で楽しい行事だったので、クリスマスの雰囲気を強く感じていました。でも、いつの頃からかはっきり覚えていませんが、冬の季節、とくに寒さのせいか、少し物悲しさを感じるようになりました。

それでも、人がいないときに見るクリスマスのイルミネーションは好きです。忙しくて騒がしい雰囲気は苦手なのですが、先日、町の公園に行ったら誰もいませんでした。クリスマスの光が見えたので、明るいゲートをくぐってイルミネーションを眺めてきました。海のそばの空気はとても穏やかで、ライトが優しく輝いていました。

みんなが十分な食べ物、住まい、エネルギーを持てていればいいのに…と思います。町の予算を、生活の支援を必要としている人や子どもたちにもっと分け合うことができたら…と想像することがよくあります。

この前、ファーマーズストアでポインセチアを見かけました。青、紫、白、赤のものがあって、紫のポインセチアは初めて見ました。父の代わりに母へ贈れたらいいなと思いました。昔、父は毎年、仕事帰りに赤いポインセチアを母に持ち帰っていたからです。ポインセチアは見た目以上に繊細で、寒すぎても暑すぎてもいけない、ちょうどよい温度が必要です。

昔の家に住んでいた頃、母はポインセチアを寒い玄関に置いていました。でも今の家は昔ほど寒くないので、植物には少し暑すぎてしまうのです。

どの色が一番いいでしょうか？なかなか決められません。赤と白はとても伝統的な雰囲気があり、青はクールで、紫は少し個性的でありながらエレガントに感じます。もし手に入れる機会があれば、紫を試してみたいです。

赤：愛、温かさ、伝統
白：平和、純粋さ、静けさ
青：静けさ、深さ、内省
紫：優雅さ、神秘、創造性

うん、やっぱりこの季節には、紫が一番しっくりくる気がします。紫は冬の静かな深さをたたえていて、寒さの中でやわらかく光る灯りのように、記憶と希望を同時に運んでくれる色なのではないかと思います。
