City Artwork Photography

I sometimes enjoy taking photos of town artwork. Town artwork is simple, meant for everyone, colourful, happy-looking, creative, and pretty. People paint wall art, window art, and sometimes even on the road. It’s so free and artistic. I don’t think skill is the most important thing. The joy of creating and how much happiness the artwork brings to others matters more.

I love visiting art galleries, of course, but I especially enjoy this kind of town artwork. Unlike visiting a quiet gallery, where I need to prepare my mind, town artwork catches me by surprise. It’s a gorgeous experience to suddenly stumble upon new art in the city.

St. Patrick’s Day ended in March, and I saw a beautiful rainbow and a jar of gold painted on a clear restaurant window. The rainbow had six colors. I know rainbows usually have more than seven colors, but in an artwork like this, a simple rainbow looks best. The golden coins looked especially nice.

The window was also decorated with green clovers. They are so colourful and pretty! I love clovers.

Clovers symbolize luck, prosperity, and protection. A three-leaf clover represents faith, hope, and love, while a four-leaf clover is a rare symbol of good luck. In Irish tradition, the shamrock (a three-leaf clover) is linked to St. Patrick and represents the Holy Trinity.

I also saw this art piece. A red flame with three red umbrellas. The contrast between the vivid red and the black-and-white background looked so cool. I wonder why the artist chose red and why there were three umbrellas without any people.

Many artists love drawing umbrellas, probably because of their symbolism (protection, solitude, mystery), aesthetic appeal (curves, folds, structure), and emotional atmosphere (melancholy, joy, nostalgia). Umbrellas also offer a great play of light and shadow, storytelling potential, and cultural significance. Plus, they’re just fun to stylize!

How about for this town artwork? Hmm… I don’t sense any melancholy from it. Instead, I feel a playful energy, happy moments, or perhaps nostalgia. But I feel like the way we perceive it can change depending on our mood when we look at it.

Oops! It’s actually still snowing outside today. We had lost all the snow from the ground, and now it has returned.

町のアート写真

ときどき、町で見かけるアートの写真を撮るのが好きです。町のアート作品は素朴で、誰でも気軽に見ることができ、カラフルで幸せな感じがして独創的で可愛らしいものが多いです。壁画アート、窓のアート、それに道路に描くアートなんかも見かけます。自由で芸術的です。高い技術はそんなに重要ではないように思います。創作する喜びと、その作品が見る人に与える幸せ感が大切に感じます。

アートギャラリーを訪れるのはもちろん好きですが、町のアート作品はこうして何気なく楽しむことができます。アートギャラリーを訪れた時の静けさによる緊張感がなく、気負う必要もなく、町のアートは突然目に飛び込んできます。町を歩いていて突然アート鑑賞ができるだなんてとても贅沢です。

セントパトリックデーは３月に終わりましたが、まだレストランのドアの窓ガラスに描いた絵が残っていました。この虹は６色ですね。個人的には虹の色は７色以上あるように感じますが、こういったアートにはやっぱり６色の虹がかわいいですね。金貨がいい感じです。

こちらの窓には緑の三つ葉の葉っぱが描かれています。カラフルでとてもきれいです。わたしはクローバーが好きです。

三つ葉は幸運、繁栄と保護の象徴です。三つ葉のクローバーは信条、希望と愛を表し、珍しい四葉のクローバーは幸運を意味します。アイルランドの伝統では、シャムロック（シロツメクサ）の三つ葉がセントパトリックと聖三位一体を象徴するそうです。

さらにこんなアートもありました。赤いフレームに３本の赤い傘。真っ赤な色と白黒の背景のコントラストが美しいです。なぜアーティストさんは赤を選んだのでしょう。そして、なぜ誰もいないのに開いた傘が３本あるのでしょうか。

これまでにたくさんの画家たちが傘を描いてきました。傘は保護、孤独、神秘さなどを表す象徴だからでしょうか。それとも、曲線、折りたたんだ時のシルエットや、傘の構造に美的魅力を感じるからでしょうか。もしくはメランコリー、喜び、懐かしさなどの感情が絡んだ情景を思い描くからでしょうか。また、傘は光と影を演出し、ストーリー性があって、文化的な意味合いも持つものでもありますね。さらに、単純に描くのが楽しいからでしょうか。

それではこの傘アートにはどんな意味が？うーん…。メランコリーさはあまり感じません。遊び心と楽しい瞬間、それにちょっとだけ懐かしい感じがしてきます。でも、見るときの気持ちによって受け取り方が変化する気もします。

おっと！ 実は今日も雪です。先日やっと雪がとけたのですが、また積もっています。

「春はいずこに？」と彼が言っています。
