Cherry Blossoms Bloom 桜さく [English and Japanese]

Cherry Blossoms Bloom

My garden has some beautiful cherry trees, apple trees, and more. In the middle of May, the big bird cherry tree blooms beautifully in my garden. This bird cherry tree wasn't in good condition last year, but after trimming it last autumn, it recovered miraculously.

In Japanese, we call this tree Ezonouwamizuzakura. Ezo means Hokkaido, so this tree blooms in the northern part of Japan. We often call it Yamazakura as well. Yama means mountain in Japanese, and zakura comes from sakura. In my observation, once the Yamazakura starts blooming, the other sakura trees usually follow.

Yamazakura sometimes looks even more natural and beautiful than the common pink sakura.

When this bird cherry tree was in full bloom, it looked like it was dancing. Have you ever watched Japanese Nihon-buyou (日本舞踊, traditional Japanese dance) before? The bird cherry tree’s blooming looked just like that graceful dance.

This is not a cherry tree. These are fields of strawberry flowers along my driveway. Usually, these flowers and the cherry trees bloom at around the same time. They produce tiny strawberry fruits that are so juicy and tasty.

This is a Japanese cherry. Actually, I took this photo in town. I also have the same tree in my garden, but I forgot to take a photo of it this year. I hope it's not sulking about that. I usually talk to flowers and trees equally because they seem to like it when I greet them. When I do, they look happy.

This is a crabapple tree. Usually, they produce sour apples, but the flowers are so pretty. In the nearby town, there's an apple blossom festival in spring. They nominate princesses for the day. I went to see the event once. It was very traditional and interesting. It felt like the event took me back to ancient times in this area.

This is my favourite cherry tree in my garden. It’s not an easy tree to take care of. When I first moved in, I noticed that it had some fruits after the blooming season. They were sour cherries, but still tasty. After a few years, it started producing beautiful, abundant fruits, and they were absolutely delicious.

Then, the tree was attacked by bugs, and I had to treat the damage. After that, it grew too tall. My husband and I had to trim it using a rope because the spot where the cherry tree stands isn’t stable, so we couldn’t use a ladder. That’s why we used a rope to bend the branches down toward us, and then we cut them. Phew... it wasn’t easy work!

Last year, the tree didn’t produce many flowers, and the fruits were only for the birds, not for me. But finally, this spring, it bloomed beautifully again. Hopefully, I’ll be able to enjoy its tasty, juicy cherries this summer.

Some people say you have to battle with birds, especially blue jays, to get the fruits. Luckily, I’ve never had to fight with them. They’re not aggressive toward me. I leave some cherries for them and only pick the ones from the lower branches. They take the cherries from the top part of the tree. I don’t mind sharing the fruits with them.

IMG_2290.jpeg

IMG_2291.jpeg

IMG_2292.jpeg

IMG_2293.jpeg

I pray to see cherry blossoms one day. We don’t have them where I am from

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I think cherry trees need a cold winter season before a warm spring. Planting trees isn’t an easy challenge, I guess. I hope you get to see real cherry blossoms somewhere!🌸

It's truly a sight to see these gorgeous flowers, even if it's just in photos. I'm all the way on the other side of the world, but I really hope I get the chance to see these trees in person one day. You're lucky to have them in your garden—they're stunning! My favorite is the Japanese cherry. I'd never seen its flowers up close before, and they have so many details that they almost look unreal. 💕

Japan's cherry blossoms are so famous, but they are equally loved all over. I for one adore the blossoms on my crapapple, but do wish I'd planted cherry sooner. Maybe this year.

Finally, spring is here. We'll have a short summer from around June to August, and if we're lucky, early autumn will also be warm and pleasant.

I am very happy to read that you do not scare the birds because they also need to feed and if they do not harm anyone, they should never be bothered 🙏

The cherry tree is one of the most beautiful trees I have ever seen, when it is impregnated with that beautiful flower it is a paradise worthy of admiration, it is good that it has been rescued and continues to grow 😍

Cherry trees are amazingly beautiful, as you said. Yes, I like to give birds space because we’re sharing our yard with them. All the trees are their trees, too! 🌲🦜🌸
