Canada Goose Family

This is a happy story about a Canada Goose near my house. There’s a river close to the dam, and I saw a big family of Canada Geese in early spring. At that time, the family had small, pretty babies. I took photos of them because they were so adorable. The parents were very sensitive and protected their children. They made loud noises to warn each other. I’ve heard that Canada Geese can be quite aggressive when protecting their nests.

As you can see in the photo, there are six cute goslings between the parent pair. The one on the left looks very cautious. I’m not exactly sure about the physical differences between male and female geese, but they basically look similar. Males are slightly bigger than females. Some say their voices are different. When they make noise, it’s pretty loud, but I still can’t tell which one is which.

This is just my guess based on the photo. The goose on the left might be the male, and the one on the right the female, because the babies are closer to the right one. Again, I’m not sure, though.

There’s another family nearby. They all look so pretty and peaceful. I didn’t want to startle them, so I took the photos from a distance.

Yesterday, I went back to the same spot with my dog and husband for a morning walk. There were many bird droppings, so we had to be careful not to step on them. Luckily, most of them were dried. My dog didn’t mind them, of course. He was just happy to be out in nature.

Wow! “Hello again!” Everyone looked healthy and much bigger than they were in early spring. They’ve grown so well. The parents must have worked hard to protect and raise them.

Interestingly, they were all laid back and relaxed this time. No loud noises. They looked like proud parents.

I’m not sure whether the kids can fly yet, but they’ll learn soon if they haven’t already. They seemed to be eating on their own now.

They’ll stay around for a while until they migrate somewhere warmer in a few months.

Nature is such an amazing thing. These geese learn and grow so well through the natural process, in harmony with everything around them. Nothing is wasted. Everything is essential for their lives.

Sometimes I feel a little sad that humans have forgotten how to live naturally and simply. Of course, change and adaptation are also part of nature. We need to be flexible to survive, but I don’t want to forget the natural cycles of life. Seeing these Canada Goose families really touched me. I hope I can continue to see them often before they leave.

カナダグースの家族

近所で見かけるカナダグース（カナディアングース・カナダガン）のかわいらしい話です。ダムがある川があって、初春にカナダグースの大家族を見かけました。その時は、小さな赤ちゃんたちが一緒に泳いでいました。あまりにも赤ちゃんが可愛らしかったので、写真におさめました。親鳥は敏感になっていて、大きな声を出して自分の子どもたちを守るために必死でした。警告し合うために大声で鳴いたり、威嚇をするのです。カナダグースは巣の周りではかなり攻撃的になると聞いたことがあります。

写真に映っているように、つがいの間に小さな赤ちゃんグースが６匹泳いでいます。左側のカナダグースは真剣な様子で何かに注目しています。オスとメスの違いをはっきり認識しているわけではありませんが、とても似ている見た目だと思います。オスはメスよりも少し大きいと思います。大きな鳴き声を出しているのが、どちらなのか見分けがつきません。

写真を自分なりに分析しただけのことですが、左側の鳥がオスで、右側の鳥がメスに見えてきます。赤ちゃん鳥たちが心なしか、右側のお母さん鳥にくっついているように見えるからです。でも、やはり、どちらがオスかメスか、確実に見分けはつきません。

別の家族連れも近くにいました。みんなとても可愛らしく、平和的です。驚かせたくないので、写真は遠くから撮りました。

昨日の朝、主人と犬と一緒にふたたびこの場所に散歩をしに行きました。そこらじゅうに鳥のフンが落ちています。踏まないように歩くのに気を使います。幸い、ほとんど乾燥していたので大事にいたりませんでした。一方、私の犬は、そんなことお構いなしに楽しんでいます。自然大好き犬です。

わあ、「また会いましたね！」みんな元気で、春に見た時よりもかなり大きくなっていました。よく育ちました。親鳥が一生懸命守って育ててきたのがわかりました。

おもしろいことに、今回の彼らはみんなゆったりと落ち着いていました。誰もうるさく鳴く鳥はいませんでした。親鳥たちはとても誇らしそうでした。

子どもたちがもう泳げるようになったかどうかはわかりませんでした。すでに、自分たちで餌をとって食べられるようになったようです。

渡り鳥のシーズンまで、もうしばらくの間この辺りに滞在するのではないでしょうか。

自然界は本当に素晴らしいです。カナダグースは自然なプロセスで、周りの環境と調和しながら、学び、成長しています。何も余分なものはありません。すべての要素が彼らの暮らしにつながっています。

ときどき、人間は自然に生きることを忘れてしまったのだと気づかされる瞬間、少しだけ悲しくなります。もちろん、自然界でも、変化と適応は大事なことだと思います。生き残るためには順応性を持たなければならないと感じますが、自然のサイクルを忘れてしまいたくはないです。このカナダグースの家族を見て、とても感動しました。彼らが旅立つまでに、ちょくちょく会いたいなと思っています。
