A Sunny and Calm Canada Day

Last Tuesday was Canada Day. It was sunny, calm, and hot, a beautiful day overall. People celebrate Canada Day on July 1st, which marks the anniversary of the formation of Canada in 1867, when the country became a self-governing dominion within the British Empire through the Confederation of four colonies (Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick).

It’s a national holiday filled with parades, fireworks, concerts, and celebrations across the country, often featuring red and white clothing, Canadian flags, and maple leaf symbols. It’s a time for Canadians to celebrate their history, culture, and national pride.

I was invited to an event called "July 1 Festival of All Our Relations" by one of my students who was working for the event. The theme included all-ages programming and explored cultural expressions from nearby and around the world. There were live music performances, fun events, art, BBQ, kids' activities, dinner, a campfire, a lantern walk, and more. I couldn’t attend the full event due to my work schedule, but I was able to join in the afternoon.

The place was absolutely beautiful. Farming, theatre, music, art, and cultural activities are their specialties. I couldn’t take many photos of people, mostly of nature, but I hope you'll still feel the atmosphere of this beautiful place.

I really liked the greenhouse. The starter section looked neat and very functional. I prefer raised planters like these, as they’re much easier on the body, especially since working in the garden can make you stiff. It was such a pretty greenhouse.

My ex-coworker’s boyfriend used to work at the garden. Their garden is amazing. I love the farm atmosphere. The red tractor, hay, trees, open field, and blue sky were stunning.

There were some interestingly shaped garden beds, and people were painting in the garden.

Then I finally met my student! She looked so natural out there in her staff T-shirt. Actually, all of our lessons are online, so we have never met in person before. It was such a touching moment to talk face-to-face. She also introduced one of her coworkers, who joined us. Her Japanese was excellent, too. We all enjoyed chatting in Japanese for a while.

I often see this type of barn in the area, which is similar to my hometown. It has a lot of potential. It could be a studio, a house, a concert hall, and more. The graffiti looked awesome next to the bicycles.

Here’s another painting and a container. I heard this used to be an outdoor theatre, and now it’s used as a workshop.

I wasn’t sure what this small hut was, but it might be a food stand or something similar. They run a summer camp program, which my students will join this summer. I think it’s going to be a great experience for them!

These small houses seem to be for staff. Each one has a cozy room inside with a fire stove, a bed, a desk, and a beautiful view. Waking up in nature in one of these cabins must feel amazing. There’s no sky pollution. No signs, traffic, noise, or smoke.

I was really impressed by the outdoor terrace. I loved the shape and the materials. It’s similar to our mini shed greenhouse. The clear panels are both affordable and useful, and the wooden supports look great. I especially liked the stone floor. I’d love to make something like this in my own yard.

People were using it for a BBQ. It’s the perfect space, big enough for many people, and even on rainy days it would work well. At night, lanterns hang from the ceiling. It must look beautiful.

My dog got his first sausage from one of the staff members. He couldn’t sell the dried sausages anymore, so he gave us one as a gift. Now my dog is a big fan of sausages!

The music was inspiring and original. I met many immigrants like myself, some from Ukraine. I met a sweet little girl who wanted to pet my dog. She seemed to only know a few English words, like “Hi!” She kept saying “Hi!” to my dog and tried to pet him, but she was smaller than him and couldn’t reach him well. I helped her pet him, and she looked so happy.

Then, she got curious about our lemonade. I noticed she wanted some. She looked very hot and sweaty. She sat with us on the bench and picked up one of the cups. I let her drink from it. Her mother tried to stop her, but I said it was okay. Then she tried to give some lemonade to my dog, maybe it was too sour for her! She was so adorable.

We had to head home before the evening events, so we missed the chicken dinner. I imagine it was delicious. They have a big, well-organized kitchen in the main building. There are also art galleries inside, but I didn’t check them out this time since we had our dog with us.

Anyway, we had a wonderful time surrounded by nature. That night, I heard fireworks in the distance from my home. In town, people were celebrating the evening version of Canada Day. I am still hoping peace will come to the world soon. No more war. Stop the genocide. Happy Canada Day with All Our Relations! 🇨🇦🌏

晴天で穏やかなカナダでー

火曜日はカナダデーでした。晴天で穏やかな暑い日になりました。カナダデーは７月１です。カナダの建国記念日は１８６７年で、オンタリオ州、ケベック州、ノバスコシア州とニューブランズウィック州の４つの植民地を連合して、イギリス帝国内の自治領となりました。

国民の祝日てあるこの日は、楓の葉がシンボルの国旗の色にちなんだ赤と白の服を着て、パレード、花火、コンサートなどを通じて、歴史、文化、国民であることへの誇りを国中でお祝いをします。

私の生徒さんがアルバイトをしている「７月１日、すべての人々の祭典」というキャッチフレーズのイベントにお呼ばれしました。すべての年齢の人々を対象とする、地元から世界中の人たちと共に文化的表現を探求するというのがイベントのテーマだそうです。ライブミュージック、楽しいブース、バーベキュー、子どもたちのアクティビティ、夕食、キャンプファイヤー、ランタンウォークなどなど、さまざまな催し物 が用意されていました。仕事の関係ですべての行事には参加できませんでしたが、午後に少し顔を出すことができました。

とても美しいな会場です。農場、シアター、音楽、アート、文化的なアクティビティなどが、ここの魅力です。人々の写真をあまり撮らないようにしたので、ほとんどが景色の写真になりました。写真の雰囲気でイベントの楽しさを感じとっていただけたらと思います。

この温室はとてもいい感じです。苗や種を育てている場所がとてもいいなと思います。こんな風に高い位置にガーデニングをする場所があると、とても便利だと思いました。畑仕事をしているとかがむことが多く、腰を痛めることが多くなりがちだと思います。このくらいの高い位置でガーデニングできると、使い勝手がよさそうです。とてもかわいらしい温室ですね。

私の以前の同僚の彼氏さんが、このガーデンで働いていました。とてもすばらしい庭です。私は農場の光景を見るのが好きです。赤いトラクター、干し草、木々、広い牧草、青い空、それぞれの色が目を惹きます。

おもしろい形のガーデンベッドがあります。誰かがガーデンの周りで絵を描いているようです。

しばらく探し回って、やっと、生徒さんに会えました！スタッフTシャツを着た彼女はとても自然で素敵でした。実は、彼女とはいつもオンラインレッスンで会っているので、直接会うのは初めてだったのです。実際に会ってお話できるのはとても特別な瞬間でした。同じアルバイトの女性を紹介してくれ、みんなで話しました。その方も日本がとても上手で、一緒に日本語で話すことができ、とても楽しかったです。

この地域ではこういう形の納屋をよく見かけます。私の故郷にも同じ形の納屋を目にします。この建物にはいろいろな可能性があると思います。スタジオにもなりますし、家にもなりますし、コンサートホールなどにも利用できそうです。グラフィティと自転車の組み合わせが、文字通りとても素晴らしい。

こちらは違った種類のコンテナです。ここは昔外用のシアターとして使用していたらしいです。今は、ワークショップになっているようです。

これは何のための小屋かいまいちわかりませんでしたが、おそらく屋台のように使用できるものなのではないでしょうか。サマーキャンプが開催されていて、私の生徒さんも夏の間参加するそうです。とても貴重な経験になるのではないでしょうか！

ここにはスタッフ用の小さな家が立ち並んでいます。それぞれがとても心地よさそうな部屋になっていて、ストーブ、ベッド、机などが設置されています。そして、なんといっても、この美しい眺め。大自然の中のキャビンで毎日目覚めるのは気分がいいでしょう。看板、交通、騒音、煙などの汚染されたものはここにはありません。

この外用のテラスには感銘を受けました。形と素材が好きです。私たちの家の物置小屋内の温室にも同じ素材の材料を使用しています。この透明のパネルはとても便利です。中から木材で強化しているのはいいアイディアですね。中でも、この石畳が特に素敵だなと思います。家の庭もこのような石畳にしたいです。

この場所はバーベキューに使用していました。大多数の人たちがこの中で楽しむことができると思います。雨の日だって全然大丈夫です。夜には、天井から吊るしてあるライトが、さらに美しさを醸し出すのではないでしょうか。

バーベキュースタッフの方が、私の犬にソーセージをくれました。乾燥してしまったので売り物としては提供できないらしく、無料でいただきました。私の犬は完全にソーセージファンになってしまいました！

音楽は個性的でおもしろかったです。私のような移民の方たちもたくさん来ていました。ウクライナからの方もいらっしゃいました。とても可愛らしい小さな女の子が、私の犬を撫でたくて近づいてきました。おそらくまだ話せる英単語の数が少なく、「ハイ！」と一生懸命言いながら犬を撫でようとしていました。彼女の方が私の犬よりも遥かに小さく、なかなかうまく撫でることができませんでした。私は女の子の手を持って、一緒になでなでしました。すると、とても嬉しそうにニコニコしていました。

そして、彼女の興味は私たちのレモネードに移動しました。私は彼女が飲みたそうにしているのにすぐ気がつきました。きっと汗をかいて暑かったのだと思います。私たちの隣に座って、レモネードのカップを持ち上げました。そのまま止めずに飲ませることに決めていました。彼女のお母さんが気がついて止めようとしたのですが、私は問題ないと伝えました。そして、彼女は少し口をつけてから、私の犬に飲ませようとしました。おそらく、レモネードが酸っぱかったのでしょう。とても可愛いらしかったです。

夕方の行事の前に、帰宅しなければなりませんでした。チキンディナーを食べることはできませんでしたが、きっと美味しかったことでしょう。メインの建物内には大きなキッチンがありますので、美味しいご飯を作ることができます。建物内にはアートギャラリーもあるのですが、今回は犬を連れていたので観ることはできませんでした。

自然に囲まれて楽しい時間を過ごさせてもらいました。その日の夜、遠くから花火の音が聞こえてきました。町ではカナダデーの夜のお祭りが繰り広げられていたようです。世界に平和がやってくるよう引き続き祈っています。戦争も大量虐殺もやめてください。すべての人たちにハッピーカナダデーが届きますように。 🇨🇦🌏
