Sisterhood!
What’s up, Hive? It’s 2:00p.m. I prefer to post here late at night and over the many years of blogging, you’ll see that most hit the blockchain well after midnight. I’m writing this now and I’ll post this evening. There’s a seismic shift in my life right now. For the first time in decades, I’ve found a circadian rhythm and I am holding on for dear life to not fuck it up. About a month ago after two kickboxing classes back to back, I fell asleep at 11:00p.m. I woke up at 7:55a.m. the next morning, five minutes before I had to get @guthrie up for school. I’ve managed to maintain that schedule for weeks.
About a week ago, I met up with my friend Mai and her sister Sarah. @caffetto is my usual haunt but occasionally, it’s worth frequenting the yuppie coffee shops to be reminded of how much I appreciate the charms of a lawless, graffiti veneered dive with colorful eccentrics. Mai and I met through serendipitous circumstances in September and became fast friends. Since then, I’ve introduced her to the @caffetto alumni like @mada, @lovejoy, @bryanpolitte and @ghostfish. Eventually, we’ll probably be attending a death match tournament with @tarotbyfergus.
Mai and I have been talking about a shoot together and with a mutual background in kickboxing and psychology, she wanted me to meet her sister Sarah. After a brief introduction, we moved the party to Moms sushi; one of my favorite lunch spots in NE. We talked about a shoot together and I mentioned I did have my camera in my car. It was snowing which made a beautiful quintessential Minnesota backdrop. We decided to seize the moment. We found a spot near the edge of the Mississippi River and despite the cold, it was a wonderful impulsive afternoon.
These are a few of my favorite from the snowy jaunt with Mai and Sarah. We’ve been talking about something with more preparation, but after 22 years of rigid shoots, constrained by high stakes production, it was a reminder of what got me in to photography and why I love it. There is photography the art, and photography the career. I’ve been putting way too much influence on the career aspect. There may be enough in this short session to do a second post soon, but for now, thank you for reading and have a great night.
A beautiful bond 😻
Lovely pictures with lovely girls!
Lovely photos per usual @kommienezuspadt and good for you for the sleep schedule (that is a good long sleep) we've set ourselves set schedule as well this year and it's amazing how it helps keep your week in order and I feel like I have more time to work AND to schedule down time. Happy New year too :)
That sounds like a great time! It's important to remember the reason why you got into photography and to enjoy the art aspect of it. Taking a break from the pressure of a high stakes career can be a great reminder to just have fun with it. Enjoy your continued creative pursuits and thanks for sharing!
