2 Days Camping In Lefkada – Secret Beaches, Cold Beers & Mediterranean Sunset
Guess who's back (back back)... Back again (gain gain)... Hahaha!
Aye, took a couple of days off my screen to go camping with @illusivelf and it was awesome!
We're spending our summer at Preveza, a seaside Greek city, and even though Preveza has some great beaches, nothing can compare to Lefkada. It’s an island located just a 20-minute drive from Preveza and one of my personal favourite places on this foking planet! Lefkada has these awesome turquoise waters, is accessible by car thanks to the Aktio Undersea Tunnel, and has a couple of camping-friendly beaches.
All these, combined with the short drive, make the perfect "cocktail" for us to just hop in the car and go camping when we have a couple of days off. And that's exactly what we did...
DAY 1 - Krioneri Beach & Camping At Pefkoulia
Our trip started on Tuesday morning! We loaded the car with all necessities (tent, portable fridge, sleeping bags etc.), grabbed some coffee and breakfast on the go, and drove to Lefkada where we would spend the night camping at Pefkoulia, a beach located on the northwestern coast of Lefkada island. But before that, we were planning to visit a secret beach...
I've been telling @illusivelf about this secret beach I visited 17 years ago for quite some time now, but for some weird reason we never included it in our Lefkada plans. Guess what?!? It was about time!
The beach I'm talking about is called "Krioneri" which basically means cold water in Greek, and it got its name from the cold streams of underground water passing below the beach. To get there, we followed a short 5-minute trail starting at the Agios Ioannis Antzousis Monastery, located at the far end of Agios Ioannis Beach.
"Agios Ioannis Antzousis" Sign! Entrance to the monastery
We entered the monastery area, looked around for a bit (it was pretty cool), and then started hiking our way to paradise.
Agios Ioannis Antzousis" monastery
The trail was short and easy, though it got narrow in some spots so we had to stay a bit careful.
Two minutes in, we reached the top of the path and boom... this was the view that greeted us! So rewarding!
We started descending to the beach and just a few minutes later, we arrived at one of Lefkada's hidden gems.
It was stunning! Huge rocks, turquoise waters and natural shade... couldn’t ask for more.
We spent a good 4 hours at Krioneri swimming, drinking cold ones and chilling! The temperature was really high (around 38°C) but the water was cold and refreshing, exactly what we needed on a day like this.
We didn’t want to leave, but we had to haha! We had to find a place to camp for the night, so we packed our things and followed the trail back to the car.
Next stop was Pefkoulia Beach, but before hitting the road we grabbed something to eat from a canteen called "Cadina-lack" (recommended) at Lefkada city center, which was only a 5-minute drive from Krioneri.
Then we hit the road and about 15 minutes later we made it to Pefkoulia Beach, where we would spend the night camping. It was around 5:30 PM when we were carrying our stuff down to the beach and it was damn hot. Luckily, we found a nice spot to camp for the night, super close to where we parked the car.
We cleaned the ground a bit from rocks and trenches and set up our tent like pros haha. Our fortress was ready!
We were all sweaty, so @illusivelf headed to the beach, but I had other plans. I just chilled under the trees for a good half hour, drinking a cold one and listening to the sound of cicadas.
I swear this was probably the best moment of the whole trip for me. So much calmness and tranquility.
Later, I joined @illusivelf at the beach and we spent the afternoon swimming, drinking and watching the sun set into the sea. It was SO GOOD.
I think we went to sleep around 11 PM, dizzy from drinks and sun hahaha! But hey, that’s what vacations are for, right?
We all deserve a few more drinks than usual on occasions like this.
We fell asleep listening to the sound of waves and nature, and it was one of the best sleeps I’ve had in a long time.
Coffee at Agios Nikitas Village & Krioneri Beach (again 🤣)
We woke up the next day around 7:30 AM, feeling super refreshed and full of energy.
We packed our stuff and drove to Agios Nikitas, a village located just 5 minutes away from Pefkoulia Beach.
I’ve been to this village at least 10 times in my life, but it never gets old. Narrow alleys, white houses and the color blue everywhere. Classic Greek seaside village vibes hehe.
We enjoyed our morning espresso staring at the Ionian Sea and talking about our plans for the day.
We both loved our experience at Krioneri so much, we decided to spend our Wednesday there again haha. I think the main reason we went back was that we've been to Lefkada so many times and we’ve already explored every mainstream beach. Krioneri still feels fresh!
We hopped in the car and 30 minutes later we were chilling at Krioneri again. Surprisingly, it was much less crowded than the previous day!
We found the PERFECT spot to chill, a small cave right on the beach, and we spent more than 5 hours there swimming and relaxing, protected from the burning Greek summer sun.
Around 4 PM, we were completely alone at the beach and it honestly felt like a movie.
There’s just a different vibe when you’re alone in small paradises like this. That’s when your soul and mind truly calm down.
Private beach haha
@Illusivelf soaking up the sun
All good things come to an end, and the same goes for our little 2-day trip to Lefkada.
Around 5 PM we packed our things and took the trail back to the car to head home.
But just before we left, we made a quick stop to check out all the homies wakeboarding and kiting.
Agios Ioannis beach is super windy, so everyone gathers there with their boards to have fun! And there were lots of them.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t waste more time watching people do cool stuff, cause our schedule was tight. So we hit the road and 30 minutes later, we made it back to base.
As soon as we entered the house, our new "roommate" came to greet us... a stray female dog who somehow jumps the fence and likes to spend her afternoons inside our yard.
She’s still really scared of humans and we can’t get close to her yet, but we always make sure she has fresh water and drop her treats and food whenever she shows up.
Can’t say no to a face like this, right? 🐕
And I guess this pretty much sums up our 2-day adventure.
LOTS of swimming, even more beers, and falling asleep to the sound of waves. Nothing beats this combo.
We plan on going back to Lefkada soon, so I might be back with a new Lefkada blog! Stay tuned!
