the photo of the Yosemite valley was a strong contestant in my brain but I think rocks are rocks and we do not get to meet a bear that often. PS. Both the bear and the photographer were unharmed ;-)

It must have been a really powerful experience. I can't imagine what I would do if I were you :-)
keep calm. I met a wolf in PL some years ago. I was alone and he (a young male) was just curious. I felt no fear, just respect.
With the bear it was both easier and... scarier. Easier, because there were other people. Scarier... because there were other people who thought they were in a zoo and started to approach the bear for a better photo.
Unfortunately, there is always a "hero" who doesn't even realize that his behavior could endanger someone else.
