[ESP - ENG] 💖✨ Making Hallacas Part 1: Shopping for Ingredients 🛒🫑

¡Hola mi gente linda ✨💕!
¡Hola hola Comunidad!

Hello my beautiful people ✨💕!
Hello hello Community! ✨✨, You can't imagine everything I had to do today, so that's exactly why I'm going to tell you about it 🤣. The thing is, it turns out that this year my sister decided she wanted to make hallacas for the first time. Yes, you read that right, this is the first time hallacas have ever been made in my house, and obviously, with such a momentous idea, she needed her trusted assistant and accomplice, i.e. me 😌. However, hallacas are not made out of thin air. It's quite a process, which I will try to document for you, and it starts with buying the ingredients, which is what we did today.
The day started at 5am. My poor version of that time of day couldn't even imagine the whole trip I was about to take. The reason for getting up so early was that we were going to the Cecosesola cooperative (those who live in Barquisimeto know what I'm talking about) and, like worthy daughters of my mother, we decided to go super early. I must admit that it was the best idea because by the time we arrived (6:00am) the place was already full of people and at least the hallaca leaves were already gone 🤦🏻♀️. When you think that elderly ladies are weak and innocent, I will personally remind you how they are capable of pushing, stepping on, and hitting when there are vegetables involved 🤣. By 7:00 a.m., we had already finished the first part of the day, and we rewarded ourselves with some well-deserved empanadas.
We returned home to drop off our shopping, our three bags full, and went straight back out, this time heading for the city centre to buy olives, raisins, capers and leaves. We also went to Chinatown, specifically to the little market there, to look for red paprika, because we hadn't been able to find it at the co-op. Fortunately, we found it at an excellent price and they even gave us a little extra 🤣. We also took the opportunity to do the grocery shopping for the house and finally returned home, where a delicious lunch and a super playful Apollo were obviously waiting for us 💖.
