Museum Sunday for 1 euro in Munich - Part 2

(Edited)

Hello everyone! Did you know that if you're in Munich, you can visit museums on Sundays for just 1 euro?

There's something very interesting about Munich: on Sundays, many museums have a €1 entrance fee! Here I bring you the second part of this post, showing what I was able to visit in those days.

🏛 You can check the first part here! 🏛

There's something very interesting about Munich: on Sundays, many museums have a €1 entrance fee. One of them was under renovation, and since some are very large, and it was a rainy day, I only went to three of them this day. Specifically, I went to the ones near the station.

This is the station (Königsplatz) where I stayed to get to the museums, as there are several in the area. The station also has sculptures and infographics about art:

Museum N° 1: Pinakothek der Moderne.

I entered again, this time I visited different areas of the museum that I didn't see the first time.

I liked the following exhibition, it was about posters for the Olympics in the past years. They were all amazing.

Bye bye, Pinakothek!

Museum N° 2: Alte Pinakothek.

Here you'll find older, more classical art, especially paintings. Its architecture, with its long corridors and iconic pink hall, are characteristic of this museum. I really liked it, although there's so much to see that it can be overwhelming.

I enjoyed the modern side, but I liked the classical art more.

I definitely loved the main galleries and how they connect through corridors.

And some of the very large works are, of course, very striking, although my favorites were the portraits.

A large majority of the works are Catholic or ecclesiastical in nature, and another large portion are aristocratic portraits. Finally, there are other, more personal works by the artists, including portraits, landscapes, and other pieces.

Then, in another section, you could access smaller rooms that housed works by more popular artists, some of them a bit more modern, from the 19th century.

I really enjoyed this museum; I would definitely go again. Its architecture, both inside and out, is also very beautiful.

This was one of my favorites, I can´t explain why, but I think I feel related to it, I think it´s very beautiful.

After leaving, I strolled around Munich for a bit and found this sculpture just outside the museums. The avenue was also closed for an open-air music and food festival. It was a good afternoon.

Königsplatz station already feels like a mini museum on its own. So cool that it has sculptures and art info, it gets you in the cultural mood right from the start.
The piece you said you liked without knowing why got me thinking. Sometimes art just connects without explanation, you just feel it.

Yes! I found it very interesting. I'd never seen a train station with a theme like that before.

Yes! In fact, I'm also an artist, so I felt an artistic connection to that work, but also an emotional one.

The artist is Fernand Khnopff and the piece is named "I Lock My Door Upon Myself", in case you´re interested.

Thank you very much for your comment! ❤️
