Wat Phra Ngam – The Gate of Time 🛕⏳

Your paragraph text.png

Hello friends! 👋 For this trip, I’d like to take you to admire another historical site in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, famous for the “Gate of Time” ⏳ of the ancient capital. When we talk about Ayutthaya, everyone thinks of its countless historical sites. Even I, myself, when visiting here, usually aim to see the elephants 🐘 and explore the ancient city ruins 🏰, which are fascinating attractions for tourists to enjoy the preserved beauty.

I never imagined I would work and live here 🏠. Perhaps it was fate that brought me, allowing me to travel and learn about the local culture, the people , and enjoy traditional Thai-style cuisine. On this trip, we are visiting “Wat Phra Ngam” 🛕✨.

For this trip, I decided to travel alone 📷 with my Fuji camera—just me, going wherever I please 😄. Before heading out, I took a quick selfie to keep as a memory. Actually, Wat Phra Ngam is about 25 kilometers from my accommodation, taking roughly 30 minutes to get there. When I arrived, I noticed that the place isn’t very crowded with tourists. Most of the visitors seemed to come to make merit or pray 🙏 rather than sightseeing.

  • When I arrived, the first interesting thing I noticed was a little food stall 😄. But there was also a sign sharing the history of Wat Phra Ngam for visitors to read and learn about its past. The temple is located in Khlong Sa Bua Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.

Although it is an abandoned temple, it still remains beautiful. The entrance can be a bit confusing—😅 I had to circle around twice before finally reaching my destination.

This spot is called the “Gate of Time”, which can be considered the highlight of this place ✨. Why is it called the Gate of Time? When you look at it, you’ll see an ancient temple arch surrounded by Bodhi trees that are over 100 years old 🌳. It gives a magical feeling ✨. Stepping through this gate makes you feel as if you are entering the past, which is why it’s called the “Gate of Time” ⏳.

  • Actually, during the evening when the sun is setting 🌅, the sunlight reflects on the gate, making it feel even more magical ✨. But on the day I visited, the weather was overcast, as if it might rain ☁️🌧️. If you want beautiful photos, I recommend coming around 6:00 PM because the sun is setting and its light will reflect through the gate. Or, if you prefer the morning, I suggest coming around 6:00 AM.

As you step inside

As you walk inside, you’ll find an octagonal pagoda 🛕 as the main structure, with Luang Pho Wat Phra Ngam in front for Thai people to pay their respects 🙏. The atmosphere inside is quite peaceful, and it’s not very crowded. Compared to the city center, which is usually full of tourists—especially on weekends—this temple is small, so not many people tend to visit.

The area around

The surrounding area is along Khlong Sa Bua 🌿 and is also a sanctuary where harming animals or living beings is prohibited 🐦❌. I walked around, taking photos of the natural scenery around Wat Phra Ngam to share with you all 📸. Most visitors come here to make merit and pray 🙏. If their wishes are granted, they often offer bananas 🍌 or boiled eggs 🥚, and there are also stalls selling items for offerings. Visiting this place is free of charge .

And this is another historical tourist attraction in Ayutthaya Province ✨
