Get to Know ‘Khon’ 🎭 The Irresistible Charm of Thailand’s Classical Performing Art.

Hello everyone! 🌸 For this post, I’d love to invite you all to get to know “Khon” 🎭
an art form that I believe many of you are already familiar with.

December is the final month of the year, a time when there always seems to be something good that makes us smile as we welcome the New Year ✨🎉 I feel that way too. In Thailand, late December comes with cooler weather — not too hot — and I truly enjoy this season 🍃❄️

There’s also another wonderful thing to share 💖
The Khon performance and exhibition at the Koh Kerd Arts and Crafts Center, Ayutthaya, is open to the public for free until January 31, 2026 🏛️🎭

Originally, the free exhibition began in November, and due to the overwhelming interest and positive response from visitors, the event has been extended until January next year 🙌✨
I’ve personally visited twice already 😊

On my first visit, I explored the “Learning Pavilion: Discovering Khon”, where a rich collection of knowledge is beautifully presented — including the history of Khon, exquisite artworks, traditional costumes, and stunning Khon stage sets 🎨👑
There are also giant moving figures of demons and Hanuman 🐒👹, much larger than life-size!

Seeing them in photos might not seem that impressive 📸…
but once you experience them in person, I truly believe you’ll be saying “WOW!” 😍✨

The Outdoor Atmosphere

The outdoor atmosphere here is something I have to mention 🌿

  • These days, the weather is cool and pleasant, with lush greenery all around. Trees line both sides of the pathways, and shades of green are everywhere 🌳🍃 It truly gives you a sense of energy and freshness the moment you arrive here ✨

On this trip, I came with my sister 👭💛One great thing about this place is the shuttle service that takes visitors between different spots around the area 🚐There are also cozy cafés where you can sit back, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and sip on a delicious cup of coffee ☕🌿

It’s the perfect place to slow down, relax, and soak in the atmosphere 💚

Nang Phisuea Samut 🦋

As you enter the area, the first character you’ll see is Nang Phisuea Samut 🦋
— a figure many people recognize as a giant (yak).

Her most striking features are her large size and the fact that she can move, making her truly eye-catching 👀✨
Behind her appearance lies a deeply emotional and sorrowful love story 💔

If you’re interested in this character and her story, you can learn more by reading the classic Thai literary work “Phra Aphai Mani” 📖✨

The walkway is lined with a long display of paintings depicting scenes from various traditional Thai dramas 🎨

Another highlight is the corner showcasing Khon costumes and decorative accessories, with a strong emphasis on elegant gold tones ✨👑

Hanuman

  • Hanuman is the White Monkey King and the chief warrior of Phra Ram in the Ramakien.

If I were to go into all the details, it would be a very long story. I highly recommend reading it yourself — I truly believe you’ll become so absorbed that you won’t want to put the book down until you’ve finished it 📖✨

Thotsakan is the King of Giants, with ten faces and twenty arms.

  • And this was my half-day trip in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. Traveling from Bangkok, it took about one hour to reach this place.
