Rouge, noire et blanc – sewing lingerie

I am not completely sure whether this project is more about an experimental sewing project or a random photography session...

...It all started with me not needing or wanting more clothes, which results in me not really wanting to sew something. Meanwhile I still want to sew, I just don’t want a result that would fill up my full closet even more.

Two choices are open to me. Sewing something that takes forever. Or sewing something very small.

I choose the second and experimented around with sewing lingerie.

More specifically I wanted to try out different fabrics. Because even though, every time I follow @lauramica 's lingerie sewing journeys, I want to go out to get some lace and start sewing all at once, I already have plenty of fabric scraps around. Not big enough for much, but still big enough to have an attempt at lingerie.

Therefore, I choose three different fabrics and started to see what I could do with them.

Red velvet.

White nylon.

Black lace.

As for all the basic pieces of clothing I started to make myself a little repertoire of patterns, that I like and that would fit me perfectly. In that matter I made myself trousers and lingerie patterns, that work well so far.

The excuse to make something out of the black lace, was to make fitting lingerie to go with a dress I upcycled a few weeks back.

While I had big plans for a two piece, I dropped half of the project and just made the bottom part.

Simple, black, a classic.

And there are still some bigger and smaller offcuts left for future experiments.

At that stage I could have just use my lingerie patterns, apply them to the rest of my chosen fabrics and finish it all the same day. But I had to complicate things a little.

With the white nylon I tried to make a swimsuit.

Copying the pattern of a top, joined by the pattern for a high wasted bottom.

Anticipating, that I had to sew the whole piece smaller, than I needed it…

…so, like that it would lay around the skin nicely.

I got carried away, the whole thing turned out way to tight.
The only way to rescue it, was by separating the top from the bottom.

High wasted bottom in white. That’s what I got in the end.
I still have enough of the white left to try it again. If I will, is the other question. Probably not. At that stage the white of the fabric started to displease me a lot.

Hotel room white or hospital, too bland, not enough character to keep going with it this time.

I turn to the red velvet.

This time I apply the pattern as it is. And finish quiet quickly.

Not sure if or when I’ll wear them, but the red is beautiful. The velvet is soft and feels good to the touch.

Now that I am three pieces of lingerie richer, how do you photograph lingerie, if you don’t want to expose your own bum?

The light plays its games on all three surfaces.

Red bricks.

Mirrors.

Objects.

Suggestions?

Thank you all to come around once more, I appreciate that, have a very good week!

All photos and words are mine, taken and written by me.

As noted by yourself, it became a photographic journey into the inner workings of your body. Wow, it is really awesome to see the creative process first hand, and your photographs really are stunning. Thank you so much for sharing!

Ohh, I just love your article, as I always do, dearest @kesityu.fashion ! I too am very inspired by @lauramica 's professional lingerie tutorials - and I have begun various garments - BUT!! - I realised that I ultimately prefer to have zero underwear on - neither tops nor bottoms - and I love big skirts or big baggy trousers/ pantaloons - so really, maybe I'll need to create a new kind of underwear... I love how you made these high-waisted knickers. Really beautiful - and I imagine they will be super-flattering on your beautiful figure!
Yes, photographing oneself is quite a particular craft, eh - I like the idea of close-ups, unusual angles, cropped images, which you can adapt on software before publishing. Or the use of veils and/ or coveralls - just subtle revealing. Like in fancy fashion images. Like using foliage to hide particular parts! Eve in the garden of Eden and a fig leaf come to mind....
Heheh - I hope you have a lot of fun photographing! I need to do MUCH better images of my finished pieces when they are ON me, but avoid doing it, because I'm often quite spent by the time I finish a project AND write about it here!

Much love!

💛💜Thank you!! Well I always love hearing what you think about my projects:)
...indeed I like the idea of reinventing lingerie completely! or going back to wearing fig leafs all together:D
Yes the different angles and subtle revealing would be a great solution, I thought about that for my clothes in general, but then on the other hand it makes it a lot more complicated to take the photos yourself... It would be an exciting project though! If there is a gap opening up between the sewing and writing and all the other things...:)

I look forward to seeing what you come up with, dear @kesityu.fashion ! I too will eventually be doing some better photography of me in the clothes I'm making - it has been quite cold and not the best lighting in the house over winter, so that doesn't encourage me... But I'd like to make some images, so will also be carving out some time between sewing, writing, gardening, painting, etc - hehe - artists always have so many projects all at once. I love it.
