Our Summer Into The Ice Cave: An Unforgettable Family Adventure to Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa In Slovakia.
Last summer of August 2024, our family journey led us to the icy wonders of Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa or Dobšinská Ice Cave together. And we had the chance to explore one of Slovakia’s most captivating landmarks.
This frozen ice cave is located near the mining town of Dobsina in Slovakia. It is at the southwestern border of the Slovak Paradise National Park. And next blog post will be about Slovak Paradise.
This cave is famous for its natural wonder masterpiece hidden underground. From its unique ice formations and natural wonders it is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cave has rich in history and discovered in 1870. And it was one of the first electrically lit caves in Europe and the largest ice cave in Slovakia.
Summer Skating In The Cave.
Even in summer the Dobšinská Ice Cave was once open to the public for ice skating. It's no longer permitted today to preserve the cave's delicate and unique environment. And also protecting this natural wonder for future generations.
After our Poland adventure, we continued our travel back to Slovakia. And this time by hiking and into an icy cave wonderland. It didn't stop our journey and my husband was always ready and full of surprises.
But before we went on our adventure, my husband told us that we needed to prepare winter jackets. It's a magical experience of stepping into this icy wonderland.
Traveling by car and we start early.
With jackets out on our luggages and ready to pick up for our next journey. Wearing comfortable shoes for a hike to the cave, We drove through winding mountain roads surrounded by thick forests.
We finally reached our destination and and pulling into the parking area, had already set the perfect mood of excitement. The bright afternoon sun was perfect for hiking, and its golden rays made the entire trail felt truly magical. Our exploration began and step by step we set off on an uphill trek leading us closer to the entrance of ice cave.
It was a peaceful hiking, with the birds chirping and singing around us and
surrounded by forest and mountain views.
By the way, there's a schedule going inside the cave. Make sure to check the time for the cave tour. We're outside of the cave and my husband paid for our tickets.
As we approached the entrance, we already felt the cold air and it was like a giant freezer. From summer outside and winter wonderland inside the cave. Carefully walking down the staircase and we were welcomed by a breathtaking scene-The Frozen Kingdom. The sight of frozen halls and the walls glistening as though dusted with crystals.
There's a pathways for visitors to walk through. Because the ground was covered with a thick sheet of ice and its glowing. Even the frozen walls sparkled in the dim light.
Can you imagine a natural freezer that has preserved its icy cave for centuries. The Dobšinská Ice Cave is incredibly amazing. The incredible formations we found with every step deeper into the cave from pillars to frozen waterfalls and smooth, shimmering walls. Every turn revealed a new wonder, from glittering ceilings to massive ice blocks and delicate frost patterns that truly were nature's masterpieces.
We were mesmerized by the natural wonders.
At one point,my Aya made a scene. In the middle of the tour guide's lecture, she sings the song Let It Go, the chorus part with matching raising her hand like she has an icy power.
Her innocence made us laugh. She forgot that there are other people also. She realized everything when everyone laughed. She felt shy and hug me. Says mama I feel embarrassed. And I said to her it's all ok.
And people told her "To je veľmi dobré " It is good and some says "Krišna" means beautiful. After that scene, we continued walking to Elsa’s Kingdom, hehehe.
It was like stepping into an storybook that comes to life- in an icy world. And the most unexpected part was the cold inside, given the warm summer weather outside. And inside the cave it was freezing and sometimes dropping negative zero.
Our breath turned into mist, and even though we wore our jackets we were still cold. Seeing the cave as a family was the best part and giving us unforgettable memories.
Experiencing it together as a family and seeing the cave was the best part.
