Our Second Day On The Island: Our Adventure On Wheels: Winding Roads And A Breathtaking View Of Santorini's Adventure.
After our day 1 of exploring Fira Town of Santorini and a peaceful night filled with anticipation. The next morning filled our hearts with sunshine and excitement. A perfect day of new adventure for our second day on the island.
First, we had our buffet breakfast with an amazing morning view. Grateful for the beautiful experiences we have and simply enjoying the beauty around us.
After our breakfast, we prepare ourselves for a day of exploration. Walked in the stairs and rented a car. There are lots of rental cars with different prices. But my husband searched already before we came to Santorini. He negotiates with the lady what car he likes and of course for the affordable price. He got it for 60 euro in a day. In others it may cost 70 and above.
It was a white Nissan Juke, a perfect car tailored for our adventure. But first he needed to check the car, no damage and everything was good to go. I made a photo and video of the car. Prove that we have the car in perfect shape and he signed the contract. Everything was done and our adventure began.
The sun was up, and our day marked the start of full of unforgettable moments. The streets were narrow and winding. And often hugged the side of the island’s hills. It gives us a stunning majestic view of the deep blue sea. Every turn was like a postcard and all we say is that it's so beautiful. Always comes in our mouth. Silence inside the car, savouring the moments and we really really felt at peace.
First Stop: The Viewpoint Up The Hills.
To see the panoramic beauty of Santorini was really amazing. I'm so grateful for the wonderful beauty I witnessed. And the endless Aegean Sea stretching out into the horizon.
As you can see in the video it was majestic. It felt so surreal that being on top of was a dream come true. the fresh breeze and the raw beauty of nature was mesmerizing. To remember that I went uphill, I took snaps and videos that how amazing and beautiful the place is. And my husband made it down on the hill. I did not follow him because it was rocky way. I wore sandals and not appropriate for it. Visiting Santorini and more on hiking should wear proper shoes. I did not expect it too, because all he say we will go to the beach and we have a car.
But it was all ok. I savor the moment even when I'm alone uphill.
Second Destination: Caldera Beach.
It was a short drive along the coast. There are quint houses and it's a scuba diving area. When we arrived , there were people who had their diving lessons. Not very crowded and it was a peaceful area. The beach is popular of black sand and its pebbles. The Caldera Beach offers the natural beauty and captures the islands volcanic scenery. We just sat down and breathed in the sea breeze. And we didn’t stay longer on the beach and went to our next journey.
Third Destination: The Famous And Historic Landmark Akrotiri Lighthouse in Santorini.
Akrotiri lighthouse is located on the edge of the cliff and a must visit tourist spot on the island. It holds the title of the oldest lighthouse in Greece. Locals in the island and tourists recommends the lighthouse as the best sunset spot to watch on the island.
Seeing the endless blue sea, quiet atmosphere of the place and sound of my ears from the sea waves. My husband and Standing on the side and my were watching the beautiful view of the island. It just feel the wind that blew on my face and it was an awe of nature’s beauty.
**Fourth Destination: The Famous Red Beach.
**
It is one of the famous beach in Santorini because of its striking red cliffs and volcanic sand. We parked our car and we can see the red cliffs. In the parking area there's the traditional white-washed Cycladic church named Agios Nikolaos Church.
Climbing up on a rocky hill and seeing it personally was surreal. Many tourists like me admire the place because of its unique landscape. Walking up and downhill was a bit rocky. And because I wore sandals I must be careful. Visiting the place requires wearing comfortable shoes.
We started to get hungry. So we made a stopover for lunch. He found a cozy seaside taverna and we had our perfect view. When we finally arrived, I saw two ducks facing each other on a clear blue harbor. It's like they are having a conversation and love ducks. I captured a beautiful moment of the two lovely ducks. How sweet they are.
We went to Yalos Restaurant and the open beach named Vlychada. It's not just where we enjoy our food but also instantly captivates the hidden gem of the beach.
The place isn’t crowded which adds to its charm. Some visitors were sunbathing and we were simply relaxing on the chairs with the sound of the waves. And must enjoying the sun, beach and my husband's company.
Fifth Destination: Blue Domed Church.
After drying off, we went to the village named Oia. In the village the blue domed church is one of Santorini's iconic landmarks. We can see the overlooking view of the Candelaria cliffs and overlooking the Aegean Sea.
We parked our car and started walking to the famous blue-domed church. The Google Map headed us on that photo. Unfortunately the way it's not possible because its closed. We went back to the street and we didn't use the google map. Just were the feet will lead us.
Walking the narrowed street and the same on Fira where we can find shops like restaurants, cafes, souvenir items and many more.
There is another Orthodox Church located in Oia. The Panagia Platsani Church, it's in the main square of Oia and a well known landmark of the village.
We arrived at the blue-domed church, lots and lots of tourists waiting for their turn to capture a photo. It's so hot and waiting in a long line was so exhausting. And we forgot our bottled water. Were already on the time so we need to patiently wait for our turn. And each person has five minutes for snaps. There's an informational sign that only 5 minutes, no drones allowed and throw your trash in the proper place.
And the rest of the afternoon we spent roaming around. Just no exact destination and following the windstreets. Santorini Island stole our hearts and our adventure will keep it forever.
The end of our adventure. And another adventure I will share with you. So stay tuned guys.
