Our Forest Adventure to Zubria Železnica: Hiking Trip To The Silent Sanctuary of the Majestic European Bison

Hello @WorldMappin Community!. After our beautiful adventure to Vyhliadková veža in Bojnice. We continued our family adventure and the place we went to was a peaceful and beautiful place in the town of Zuberec. Our Aya was excited to see bison or zubry in Slovak language. European bison are majestic and extinct animals. What a wonderful experience to see European bison roaming around in their natural environment. Another dream came true for Aya and for sure if she saw the bison she would say "It's the best day of my life". And what makes her happy and us parents were happy too.

European Bison

In the town of Zuberec. There's a fascinating structure, the Zubria Železnica or Bison Railway. This is the home reserve to the largest land mammal in Europe called the European bison.

Zubria Železnica serves as a pedestrian bridge and a lookout point over a protected bison enclosure.

They made the structure that will give a great view of bison. Like us visitors, we can see a closer look of the bison. It's good to have that structure, aside from closer looks, we can walk around the wooden railroad and the caretakers also gave us a privilege to feed the bison. And the place is a protected nature reserve and educational trips that attracts visitors who love nature, hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts.

We started the journey by parking our car and we started hiking going to the forest.
It's an easy hiking, even small kids can do it. Going to the main, peaceful surroundings was filled with forest air and rustling leaves. We were so excited and Aya wanted to run. Dad and I were enjoying the moment walking peacefully with the fresh air grasping to our faces and hair. And we have a kid with a full charge of energy who can't control her anticipation to see the bison. My Aya is an animal lover and it brings so much joy. Especially when she sees it in person. It's good to give her memories and she will cherish every opportunity to see them in real life.

From afar we saw a wide gravel path. Aya was so happy saying It's a sign that we're almost there, mama. As we walked and we stepped into the forest, a wide space of the forest revealed like a treasure.

What I love is when we go exploring the forest and hiking. It's not just physical activity and I am connected with nature. The breathtaking scenery and lush greenery trees gives me inner peace.

Right at the entrance, there's an informative wooden board with history of the majestic animals. European bison are extinct and the Slovak government and other agencies who protect the mammal have done an impressive way to protect their wildlife.

1000022359.jpg

There's a tree trunk sculpture that was made into a work of art. With the image of the bison, chapel, symbol in Slovak flag and others carved into the wood.

1000022360.jpg

Another thing that I found was a small person carved into the wood. It looks like a forest ranger with a Slovak message that says "Človek chráň prírodu – príroda zachráni teba," which means "Protect nature – and nature will protect you." And I totally agree with the saying when we take care of our nature and our nature will give us more benefits and a reminder that we are responsible to take care of our nature. But sad to say because of destroying our nature there's a negative effect which is climate change.

There was a wooden structure, a viewing house built on higher ground. And all visitors, we could see and observe the bison from a distance. There are also benches, photos and information in the viewing house. From the distance we saw the bison. As much as I wanted to take a video or even photos, the result was not good. Hours passed and we were still patiently waiting for the bison to come. Still we didn't get a closer look.

-photoshoot first while waiting for the bisons-. ☺️

There's a bit of disappointment that we didn't see a closer look of bison but we need to respect it. And explain to our girl, that bison taking there sieta. We need to respect their time to be alone.

Our experience was a reminder that we appreciate the beauty of our nature. And also the importance of respecting boundaries. It's also applicable to animals.
